[3rd POV - Narrator]
The Good Doctor beamed his way down to the planet's surface after hearing there was another human there. Bones, as the Captain called him, absolutely hated the feeling of being torn apart into millions of little particles then put back together like some scientific puzzle.
"This better be good, Jim! You know how I feel about beaming down." The grumpy doctor spoke agitatedly as he was guided through the small camp. He noticed the lack of females and got an uneasy feeling. What on earth was Jim thinking to bring him down here?
When the Captain saw him, however, he was stiff and stoic. Bones knew it was serious when his friend since the Academy was emotionless like the green-blooded Hobgoblin. He exhaled and gave a small amount of sass, giving in. "Alright, Captain. Let me see her."
Kirk forced a small smile as he led his doctor friend into the tent where the female lieutenant's mother was now resting in a proper bed of cushions. She was immobile, weak and hardly holding on. McCoy was quick to scan her with his small device and tricorder. It wasn't looking good and wouldn't get any better unless he got her on board the ship. With an uncomfortable breath in, he glanced back at the entrance where he assumed the Captain to be in. Instead, what he found was the daughter of his patient.
She had the obvious look of worry plastered on her face, but she was trying to hide it with her body language. The doctor had seen this before. He saw it in none other than the pointy-eared machine.
"Let me guess. Your mom made you mad but you can't help but be afraid of losing her." He stated as he zipped up his medical pouch. "She'll be fine for now after I give her this pain medicine. It's just fatigue and malnutrition. My readings show she's been this way for a few months now." He explained calmly after giving her mother a small dosage of vitamins to keep her body functioning. He wasn't going to tell her it was serious, not yet anyway.
He didn't know this lieutenant as well as the Captain, but he heard about her. It was a shame he was meeting her this way and not at some company relaxation event. He stood and walked to her, a small comforting smile on his face. "The names McCoy. You must be Lieutenant (Y/LN). It's a shame we have to meet under these circumstances. I understand Jim's gone and promoted you on the first day. Must be a special kind of person to get that from him."
"She's not doing well, is she, doctor. It's fine. I can handle it." The young woman said as her eyes never left her mother. She did stand tall, but could not hide her emotions. Not in front of this doctor. She knew this, too. "My name is Lieutenant (Y/LN) and that is my mother. The one who caused the digression of this planet." She walked over, standing next to the doctor now.
She couldn't help but feel guilty for her mother's actions. It wasn't her fault that this happened, but she was her mother. If anyone were to take responsibilty it should be her daughter, right? Right..? No one else would. It would all fall to her. Her family would be punished for her mother's actions.
But she was still her mother, whether or not she ruined a planet. Her mother was missing for nearly three years. In the last three years of her time in the Academy she focused on school to find peace. A piece of her studied hard in the hopes her mother was in space somewhere for whatever reason. Now, her instinct was right and it turned out her own mother was ruining a planet. She exhaled deeply as her thoughts made it impossible for her to maintain a leveled head. She looked at the doctor for a short second, her eyes gloomed.
"You know, doctor. A part of me wished she would get tried for what she did here. The Starfleet Officer part of me, that is. Yet another part of me wished she wouldn't leave this planet. Her daughter part of me. Now I don't know what I want more or if I even want any of those two options to happen." She watched as her mother slept soundly since she was injected.
