“The town’s fair”, I muttered. We have finally reached Cass’ third planned destination. Now that I think about it this is so typical of a girl like Cass. “I should have known you would pick to go to a carnival.”

“Of course! It’s been too long since I’ve been to one!” She said, excitedly. Pulling my arm, she exclaimed, “Come on! You’ve got to win me a giant teddy bear first.”

“I’ll buy you one tomorrow. You’ll never win a big prize at these games. They’re designed to empty your wallet and only win the smallest prize." I said looking around at the dozen of games set up all around the fair. There’s a shooting game, a fishing game, a coin toss game, and that thing with the hammer.

She pulled me to a target shooting booth. “That’s what lousy losers say”, she chided. "Anna and her boyfriend went here last week. And her boyfriend won her a giant pink giraffe.”

“What’s her boyfriend’s job?”

She glared at me and said reluctantly, “A policeman.”

“See. He’d be a lousy police officer if he doesn’t know how to shoot targets. They go through all kinds of trainings for that. The best training I got is laser tag.”

“Oh come on, babe”, she pleaded, knowing exactly how to soften me up with pet names. “I’ve always wanted a boyfriend who would win me a giant stuffed toy from a town’s fair.”

“That’s a very specific dream, babe.” I teased. But surrendered. First, I have to prove my manliness because real men know how to shoot. Second, I have to fulfill her maybe made up dream because I’m sure as hell that there’ll be no other boyfriends after me.

I handed the operator a dollar. Which is very freaking expensive for a cheap ass game. But what the hell. “Which one do you like?” I asked, pointing to the bunch of stuffed toys lined up at the wall.

Cassandra grinned widely and hugged my arm tightly. “I want that purple babtopus.” I chuckled, seeing the octopus that she was referring to. It was hella lot cuter than the real ones.

“Good choice.” I complimented.

To cut the story short. I spent 50 dollars before finally being able to shoot all three targets consecutively. I might have lost a bit of my manliness but I won her the stupid babtopus toy so that’s a win in the end.

“Alex, this is so cute”, she said, hugging the toy towards her body. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” I smiled taking her in. If I’d known that before that a simple thing like this could make her squeal like a little girl, I would have filled her room with a thousand teddy bears or stuffed babtopuses for that matter.

She clutched her toy on her other side while she hanged on to my arm. “We have time for one ride before we go to the next destination. Which would it be?”

“So suddenly?”

“We’ve been at the shooting game for almost two hours, babe.” She teased.

“Hey! I won you the freaking toy!”

“I’m not complaining.” She grinned. “Let’s ride the ferris wheel.”

“Good. I don’t think my stomach could handle the roller coaster anytime soon.”

-

“You know I’ve never kissed someone on a ferris wheel before.”

She laughed at me. “Really? I guess that’s one of the few thing I did before you.”
