Chapter 1: Hard Enough Life

(8 years later)

(Y/n pov)

(Y/n): (sigh)"geez my fingers hurt (rubbing his fingers) i hate working the dust mines all I do all day is slave away while those high and mighty superiors just lord over the rest of us"

I was 15 now I was still living at the orphanage thanks to law dictating your not allowed to out on your own till your 18 and headmaster Elric said I can live there as long as I'd like also it seemed that adopting an orphaned Faunus wasn't something that appealed to everyone, most of the kids I grew up with were adopted out a long time ago so I learned never to become too attached to someone that can be taken away from you too easily. The only people who were still there were headmaster Elric, Alina and atra who i learned was living there for her own personal reasons instead of being up for adoption. The problems that plagued me most of all were-

Bully:"hey there he is!!!"

An orange haired guy appeared with 3 of his friends that often make fun of you and try to beat you up appear and stop you from walking home.

(Y/n):(sigh) "not you jerks again for last time I wanna-"

Bully 2:"oh save it your getting your ass kicked today end of IT!!!" he says and tries to rush you with a punch but you activate your semblance (phase shift) and he passes through you and falls to the ground

(Y/n):"I told you it's pointless to try and attack me my semblance won't let you touch me" I said as they tried to punch and grab me but I simply used my semblance to avoid them and sidestep them as soon as they tried to hit men "I have somewhere to be so is this going to take much longer?"

Bully 3:"you Faunus freak we know that you live at that rundown dump you call a home how about you taking your beating like a the coward you are or maybe they'll be an "accidental fire" starte-"

The second he threatened my home and my family I punched him in the mouth sending him to the ground the other two grabbed me and tried to restrain me while the fourth reeled back to punch me in the face. I used my semblance to phase through the two holding me and push the one on my left in front of the fist flying at me making them collide with a loud (SLAP) sound sending him straight to the ground most likely unconscious. before the other guy on my right could process what happened I punched him in the gut and while he was hunched over I threw him headfirst into the stomach of the guy still standing upright when he did he toppled over like a stack of cards. I was in a frenzy and grabbed the collar of the first guy I punched who was still coughing and was about to beat him some more until someone grabbed my wrist.

???:"what do you think your doing?!?!

I turned my head and saw a police officer standing there holding my wrist looking at me like I was some kind of criminal.

Police officer:"why did attack these boys...you get a tick or something???

(Y/n):"but they-"

Bully 3:"h-he attacked us...he t-tried to m-mug us and we tried to r-run but he caught up to us a-and he did t-this to us" one of the bullies on the ground said still clutching his stomach.

(Y/n):"They're lying!!!"I yelled

Bully 2:"it's true" said the other regaining consciousness "he harasses us every time we come through here just look at we he did to Cardin" he said pointing to the guy I punched first

Police officer:"is that so" he drags me up "then your in deep trouble now Fox boy" he says as he pulls out handcuffs and handcuffs my hands behind my back while I was in shock I look back at the four supporting each other to stand up and they all gave me a smirk before acting like victims as soon as the cop looked back up I felt my rage get to me and used my semblance once more to slip through the handcuffs and the cop and took off running.

Police officer:"HEY GET BACK HERE FAUNUS!!!"
He said as he ran after me "Ive got a (S/c) fox Faunus suspect with (H/l)(H/C) fleeing on foot requesting immediate backup!!! Careful this one can go through solid objects I need to grab him before he pulls a vanishing act!!!"he blurted out into a radio

(Y/n):"THANKS FOR THE TIP CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!!" I yelled as I used my semblance to pass right through the fence of a construction yard and kept running as I heard him angrily yell from the other side of the fence

(Timeskip brought to by (Y/n) trying to avoid the cops as "bad boys" is playing)

(Y/n):(gasping)"there ...I should be ...safe...for now" I said as I pretty much backtracked to a forest not to far away from my place of work I was planning on hiding there until the police search died down but then "wait a minute...those jerks know where I live...they probably tipped off the cops and they're questioning everyone over places I might be right now DAMMIT!!!" I yelled knowing I couldn't return home now that they'll probably stakeout the place waiting for me to return.

I walked deeper into the forest trying to contemplate my next move "what am I going to now... I wanna at least sneak in and tell everyone the truth...they'd believe me I know they will...and so I can say my goodbyes to everyone I don't want them dragged into this" I said I looked up and saw what looked like a boulder covered in moss in the middle of a crater. I walked up to it and noticed something it had a very odd shape and it also had a pair of what looked like arms sticking out of it I started to peel away some of layers of moss and discovered there was metal plating underneath the moss i then realized this was some kind of military mech. I'd seen reports on the news about the new atlas mechs being tested and assembled for the military but I didn't know why they'd leave one out here.

(Timeskip brought to by (Y/n) trying to clear and excavate 6 years worth of plants and dirt of his new discovery)

I was exhausted but I'd finally managed to clear the mech but it's design was different than the ones I'd seen on tv it was mostly likely a prototype that malfunctioned hence the crater in the ground and the military just decided to desert it here instead of recovering it I "they're loss" I said to myself I took a closer look at it and I found an area outside that had some cylinders sticking out I pulled them out slowly they look like they were some sort of fuel canisters but whatever fuel this used was drained I thought to myself as I saw these resembled canisters of dust that we mined and had refined back at the mines it looked like they're were slots for two of them so It looks like I wouldn't have to steal that many from my dead end job.

(Atra pov

It was getting late and (Y/n) still hadn't returned home from the dust mines he always worked so hard and for not a lot of money I'd heard that any Faunus that worked at mines worked very risky positions for next to nothing he'd said he wanted to quit and fine somewhere that pays better but we needed any Lien we could get to pay for things around here.

(Knock)(Knock)(Knock)

Atra:"coming" I said rushing to the door thinking
(Y/n) had locked himself out "do you have any idea wha-" I stopped talking as soon as I saw it wasn't
(Y/n) but a police officer "oh can I help you?"

Police officer:" yes may I speak to the owner of this establishment?"

As soon as he said those words I immediately thought about (Y/n) and I was filled with dread that something very serious had happened to him
"(Y/n)...please be okay" I thought to myself.
