The Moon. (Newt fanfic)

Chapter: 8

"Hey, shuck faces. Get up!"

I opened my eyes to see Minho's face hovering over me. I sat up quickly and looked down Newt also sat up. Oh crap. This wasn't good. I looked at Newt his face suddenly going red. Mine probably was too. After all I had just slept in his arms.

"Oh, just wait till Gally hears about this!" Minho said, excitedly.

"Slim it Minho." Newt said. Minho just laughed. I felt heat come to my cheeks.

"Are the doors open yet?" I asked.

"No, but in 5 minutes they will, so hurry your shucking butts up!" He said.

Finally after a few minutes my hair was brushed through and I got my new running shoes and I was off to the kitchen. When I got there Minho, Newt and Alby were there.

"Hey, here's your breakfast greenie." Said Minho, as he threw me a green apple.

I took a bite of it and then hurried up to finish it. After I finished it Minho handed me a back pack, that had lunch and water in it. Plus, a knife and a pencil and paper. After a few more minutes of Minho explaining some things to me, I heard the doors to the maze open and Newt and I ran out into the maze.

  After hours of running and Newt teaching me to cut vines and take notes, we stopped and ate lunch. I had a PB&J sandwich and an apple.

"So, how do you like being a runner, so far?" Newt asked, in his beautiful accent.

"I like it. I seem to be able to keep up and I think I could get used to remembering each turn." I said, with a smile.

"I think you are already a good runner. A few more days and you'll be a pro." He said, enthusiastically.

I smiled and kept eating. After a few more minutes we decided to head back to the glade early, so he could teach me how to make a map. He let me take the lead back to the glade and he would shout a 'left' or a 'right' every once and awhile.

   We made it back to the glade as the first ones back from the maze so we went to a place that they called a map room. It was where we mapped out the maze and try to figure it out. When we got in there Newt taught me map it out. While we did the maps the rest of the runners had came back and mapped there section.

"You did great today!" Newt said as we walked to dinner.

"Thanks! It's hard work, but I like a good challenge." I said.

  He smiled. I liked it when he smiled. He also had a light in his eyes every time I saw him. His messy sandy blonde hair all ruffled and looked so soft. I wanted to reach out and touch it.

  Stop! Stop thinking about it, Luna! That is just creepy! I took a deep breath and kept walking and talking with Newt.

At dinner I sat on a new bench that had been made for the tables and I sat in front of the new table Gally had made. Newt sat right by me of course and someone had made a salad with some burnt chicken. It didn't taste so well, but I ate what I could because I was hungry.

After dinner I walked around with Newt under the stars. Newt and I decided that this was now going to become a almost everyday thing. Walking under the night sky and just sitting under the moon and stars.

"So, what's your favorite part in the glade so far?" Newt asked.

  I had to think about that this wasn't something I had thought of. Was it running? Was it thinking? What about alone time? No. No it wasn't one of those. It was spending time with Newt.

"My favorite part is spending time with my best friend." I replied.

"Really? I didn't know you had a best friend." He asked, shocked.

  I smiled. I decided to tease him a bit.

"Yeah! You know my best friend is awesome. He is a great listener and I'm so great full for him."

He looked a little disappointed and maybe... hurt.

"Who is it?" He asked, his jawline a square.

"You!" I laughed. He looked at me. Even in the dark I could see him blush a little.

After awhile he laughed too. We just sat there laughing and talking, for what seemed like hours. Newt and I liked each other's presence.

"So, you and Gally are siblings?" He questioned.

"Yeah, although I'm pretty sure that we are only half siblings. I think we shared the same mom, but a different dad." I said. "Don't ask me how I know that, because I don't even know, how I know."

He chuckled and layed his head on the ground and I did the same. Our shoulders touched as we were on the ground. Both of us looking up at the sky. We laid there in comfortable silence. Maybe being stuck in here wouldn't be so bad.

  "How is subject A3, doing?" Janson asked, as he walked into the view room.

  He looked up at the surveillance screen. He saw in the middle that Luna and Newt were just lying there.

"She is reacting very well. Better than we thought, actually." Chancellor Paige, said.

"That's good. Do you think she'll make it?" Janson asked.

  Chancellor Paige turned to look at him and said, "Your daughter is going to be fine, Janson."

   He was so worried about her being up there with all of the boys and the Greivers, but he didn't dare show that kind of emotion. Luna will be fine, he thought. Chancellor Paige must have noticed his worried ness because she walked over to him and stood by him looking up at the screens.

"She's your daughter, Janson. She will get out alive that's the plan, remember? You know she will be fine or she will die trying." She said. Her words were actually starting to comfort him.

"I know she will be okay. She's a whole like her mother." He said.

"She's a whole like you, too." She said.

  He nodded and just watched the camera that was on the beetle blade. He had never really ever been close with Luna, because he was always so busy with work and she always had lessons. It wasn't until she was older that he found out she was immune and Wicked wanted her. So, if it meant they found a cure for this stupid world then he would sacrifice her. He had too. He had to find a cure.
