Chapter: 9

It had now been four months since I had arrived in the box. The glade was starting to become a fully functional place to live in, but still no way out. The other runners and I had ran every inch of that maze and still nothing. We still ran though because Nick told us too.

Since I had arrived we have had three new greenie's all boys of course and today the box was coming up again with supplies and a new greenie. Today the runners didn't have to run the maze, thankfully so we had the day off.

A lot of things had changed in the glade, since I had arrived. We had a cook called Siggy, but we all call him Frypan. We also have new jobs. We have people called Medjacks, there are two of those, there names are Clint and Jeff. And Gally is head of the builders.

We also had a name for the leaders of the jobs. We called the keepers. Minho was keeper of the runners, Clint was keeper of the Medjacks, Gally keeper of the builders, Zart keeper of the track- hose (garden). Alby was second in command. Nick was first.

Newt and I both still ran the maze together, because Minho said it would be best for us to all have running partners. Some days other runners would take a day off and I'd run there section alone. We still had people slacking off quite a bit, so we were trying to get that under control.

Since I was still the only girl, I wondered if the creators would ever send another girl anytime soon. At least the glader's are nice though, well most of them. Some were still weird around me, but they all are hormonal teenage boys and I'm the only girl so...

  All the gladers were all standing by the box waiting for the new greenie to come up. Newt and I standing in front. I looked around and saw Alby. It was his turn to show the new greenie around. We all decided to take turns with that and by 'we' I mean Nick, Newt, Alby, and me.

  We heard the buzzing of the box and we all flinched at the sound, we were still not used to the sound yet. After a few seconds of the sound it stopped. We all let out a breath of relief. I think the other's would agree with me when I said that we hated that sound.

  Nick and Gally both opened the metal doors and Alby jumped in. There was a blonde boy in the box. He had short blonde hair and looked like he was at least 15. He looked terrified and I couldn't blame him.

"Hey greenie. Welcome to the glade!" Alby said.

"Where am I?" The boy asked.

"I'll tell you in a bit. First we need to get you out of this box." Alby said.

  A few boys next to me had a rope and threw it down. The new boy climbed the rope and his eyes met mine. I noticed now, that he had ice blue eyes. A minute later Alby had climbed up and took the greenie over to homestead. I remembered when I came up and how I passed out.

"Hey you alright?" I heard Newt say. I hadn't noticed, but I was staring out into space.

"Yeah, Sorry." I said. I looked around and saw the boys getting the supplies that had came in the box.

"Hey Luna, this is for you." Gally said, walking up to me.

  He handed me a crate. I took it. It was quite heavy, but I could manage. Newt saw me struggle a bit and he took it.

"I'll take it to your room for you it'll be in your bed." Newt said.

"Thanks." I said. He walked away carrying the box and I turned to Gally.
