It was dinner time finally. Minho and I had finished running and mapping out what we ran. We still had not found a way out and we didn't find anything new. I had decided to eat dinner in Gally's medjack room, alone. Gally was still shaking and groaning from pain, but he seemed to be doing better. Clint said that he should wake up in two days or three, but he'd have to stay in bed because of the stitches.
Clint and Jeff would clean the wound about three times a day and sometimes I would help. Nick and I had already talked, he said that he would think about my position as a runner. Although, I pointed out that WICKED wanted me to be a runner, because they send weapons to me, but he still said that I might loose my job. I didn't want to stop running though... it just felt right. I was interrupted from my thoughts when Alby walked in.
"Hey."
"Hey." He walked over and sat by me, in silence. It wasn't awkward silence, but it wasn't comfortable, either. I heard him take, sigh.
"Look, I know something is going on, but I'm going to push you, to talk about it. I just wanted to let you know, I'm here for you." He said. It shocked me by saying that. I mean Alby was a nice guy, but he wasn't very emotional about anything, so this really came to me as a shock.
"Um, thanks." I said. He chuckled.
"Look I know, I'm not the... most sentimental guy here, but I think of you as a little sister, so if someone is bothering you th-"
"Wait, you think of me that way?" I cut him off.
"Yeah, I do. And if someone is bothering you, then I promise, he won't be sleeping in his Hammock." He said. I shook my head.
"No, nobody is bothering me, it's just I've been having these... nightmares, but I'm getting them in control." I lied, but he seemed to buy it. He nodded understandably.
"Just remember what I said, if anybody bothers you, come to me, okay?" I looked at him and smiled.
I nodded, "Thank you." And with that he walked out. I smiled at myself, at the thought of Alby, thinking of me as a little sister. I stared at Gally, wondering what he was feeling as, time went on. I heard that you get some memories back as you go through the changing, but not big ones. Well not big enough to help get us out, at least.
I heard someone coming, I knew it was Newt by the sound of his crutches. He came in and smiled at me. He quickly took the seat by me. I heard him sigh, a bit. I looked at him, I could tell he was thinking.
"What are you thinking about?" I asked.
He shook his head, "Nothing. I was just wondering, how long do you think it will take to get out of this place?"
"I've thought about that, a lot too and I honestly don't know. Maybe a few more months, at least I hope. Although, when we get out, I doubt we will have a home."
"What do you mean?" He asked. I sighed.
"They did tests on us, Newt. We didn't have a choice. We did what they said, no matter how awful, it was and if we didn't do what they said.... they'd punish us...." It felt good to tell someone about this, but I was also terrified.
"How do you know this? I thought you couldn't remember, anything." It was hard to look at him, but I forced myself to.
"I've been having... dreams. They are more like memories, sometimes. The memories I get, wouldn't help us get out." I admitted. I had tears in my eyes. Newt shifted in his seat, to look at me.
"How long has this been going on?" He asked, I couldn't tell if he was mad or not, which was killing me.
"For awhile now... I was just scared that, nobody would understand. I was afraid that you would think I was crazy." I had a few tears running down my face.
"It's okay. I don't think your crazy and if you don't want to tell Nick that's fine, but I think you should." He wiped my tears. "Your okay."
I gave him a small smile, "Thank you." I hugged him. After the hug ended, I took a deep breath and told him everything. He nodded as I was explaining. There was a few times I was sure I scared him, especially when I mentioned my "power". After I was done explaining, he sat there in shock. His chocolate eyes opened wide.
"Wow.... Um, what do you think, you're "power" is?" He asked. I shrugged.
"I honestly don't know." I said. We sat in silence for awhile.
"Clint and Jeff said, I can start trying to walk, soon." He said, breaking the silence. I smiled.
"That's great. I'll help you and walk with you, if you want." He nodded and smiled.
"Yeah, I'd like that." Newt said. I checked my watch.
"It's getting late, do you want me to help you to your room? I'm staying down here tonight." I asked.
"No, I'll stay here with you." He said. "These chairs are comfortable, anyway."
I smiled. He opened his arms, so I could lay against him. I gladly snuggled up, close to him. His arm was wrapped around my shoulders and his other one was laced around my hand. It was moments like these that I loved. To some it may have been weird, but this was my safe haven.
I hadn't realized how tired I was until I closed my eyes. I fell asleep almost immediately, but before I fell asleep, I felt Newt kiss my temple. I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
