Chapter 22

A CoupleYearsLater

Tai'sPOV

"I miss you so much," I pout over the phone.

"I miss you too," she giggles. "But I have to go okay? I love you."

"I love you too," I tell her and she hangs up.

I miss Mya and it's killing me to be so far away from her. I've only been able to see her in person once a month since she got accepted into the Art Institute of New York City. I stayed here because I was accepted into the University of Georgia.

Today is my first day. I'm trying to stay positive and not think about how bad my heart aches.

I walk into the building and start looking for my class. There's a lot of pretty girls here, but all I can think about is Mya.

"Hey cutie," a peppy blonde says to me.

"Uh..hi," I say to her. She gets closer to me, a little too close, and starts to rub my arm.

"I'm Amy," she says.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Tai," I say, shrugging her hand off. "And I have a girlfriend." She laughs. "So what? She doesn't have to know," she pulls herself to me while wrapping her arms around my neck. I push her away and walk to my class.

Mya'sPOV

Today is my first day and I'm so excited. I look down at my phone while walking to my car. I see a text from Tai.

*Haveagreatfirstday. Iloveyou* I smile down at my phone. I miss him so much.

*Youtoo. Iloveyou <3* I text him back before I start the car.

I wait for Marlon to come out of our apartment and rush towards the car.

"Finally," I say as he gets in.

"Beauty takes time," he says. I roll my eyes and laugh.

Marlon and I both got accepted into the Art Institute of New York City. Gabby was accepted into Juilliard, which is not far from us, so we get to see her often. Ronnie is in Kennesaw State University, while Nathan attends Yale.

Marlon and I are speechless as we walk into the building. I honestly never thought that I'd get here.

I walk down the hall until I bump into something and fall to the ground. Marlon helps me up and I look to see what or who I bumped into.

"Lo siento, hermosa desconocida," he says, extending his arm. I shake his hand. "I don't speak Spanish," I tell him politely. He chuckles. "Oh my bad. It means 'I'm sorry, beautiful stranger'."

"Oh it's okay, and thank you," I say.

"What's your name?" he asks.

"Mya."

"Nice name. I'm Daniel, but you can call me Danny." he says.

I give him a smile as I take in his appearance. He's about my height. His light brown eyes contrast perfectly with his tan skin. He's thin but not too thin and his dark hair is a mess on top of his head, but he makes it look good.

"So how long have you been in New York?" Marlon asks him.

"Only a couple weeks. I just moved here from Puerto Rico."

"Cool," Marlon and I say simultaneously.

...

"What we gonna eat today?" Marlon asks as he flops down on the couch.

"I'll order some pizza," I tell him. I grab my phone and order a pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut.

*Beep, beep, beep*

"Your laptop is beeping," Marlon tells me. I open it.

"Hey baby," Tai says when I accept his call. "Hey. What's wrong?" I ask, studying his face that is set in a pout.

"I'm lonely," he says.

"Awe, it's okay. You'll see me in a couple days." He smiles. "I know. That's a long time though." I laugh.

"So how was your first day?" I ask. He sighs. "It was okay. Just boring teachers. Thirsty girls. You know, the usual." We both laugh.

"So how was your day?" he asks. "It was good," I tell him. "The school is great!"

He smiles and we talk for hours until we both fall asleep.
