I glared at Caleb while he hugged her. He glared right back. It'd been like that for a while, constant fighting over her. Breaking our friendship, almost, because of a girl. But I don't think Sadie Sink should be reduced to "just a girl". There was just something. Something about the way a sunset seemed to light her hair on fire. How her eyes were a brighter blue than the sky and reflected the light that fell onto the water on the day we went swimming. How her laugh seemed to fill a room with happiness. How she'd managed to make me fall head over heels in love with her. If only she'd fall back.
"Thank you so much for helping me, Caleb. I couldn't've done it without you." She said after she let go of him.
And now she was leaving. For good. Forever.
"Now you, Noah, better stay in contact with me or I'll fly right back to beat you up." She told me while pulling me into a hug. I could feel Caleb's eyes burning in my neck but I didn't care. "Remind me to never contact you so you'll come back." I whispered to her. "I hate you." She laughed. "I love you." I replied.
I knew it then and I know it now. Caleb knew it, I knew it, everyone seemed to know it all at once. I loved her.
"Love you too." She muttered. The three of us stood in silence for just a minutes before she cleared her throat. "Hey, Noah, can I talk to you outside for a second?" She asked me. I nodded and followed her out of the school trailer. "What's wrong?" I asked her when I spotted the weird look on her face. "Noah, be honest with me, does Caleb like me?" She asked me, looking up at me through her lashes. Of course. She liked Caleb. "Yeah, I think so." I answered, not wanting to lie to her. "Well fuck." She whispered. "Why?" I asked her but she just shook her head. "And-and what about you, Noah. You said you loved me but-" she stopped in the middle of her sentence. I sighed, my shoulders coming down, and slowly started nodding, looking anywhere but her face. "Are-are you gonna make a choice or-?" I asked. "I made my choice a long time ago, Noah." With that she pulled me down by my shirt and pressed her lips against mine.
