Kenzie's P•O•V
I got out of my car and walked towards the front doors. It's my lunch break so I'm going to go see my sister. She's in a home for disabled girls. Here she learns how to take care of herself on her own, and she can also continue her education. It was also her idea. Anything to get away from my mothers pity.I smiled as I walked past the Nuns at the entrance. I haven't been here in years. This isn't he first time she's asked me to come see her. I brought her a few things. I pressed the elevator button for the 3rd floor. I knocked on her apartment door. Hers is the first to the right of the elevator.
"It's open!" She shouted. I pushed the door open and stepped inside of the apartment. She's sitting on her couch flipping through the channels. "Kenzie! You came," she smiled excitedly. I walked towards her and hugged her tightly. I pulled away from her after a few moments and sat down beside her.
"Tell me hows life been going?" I asked. "There's this very cute boy who volunteers here. I like him a lot. He's super kind and sweet, thrust me if you met him you'd love him too," she smiled. My heart warms to hear that she's happy with someone. "How old is he?" I asked.
"He's seventeen, his name is Nathen. He brings me gifts like books that I love, makeup, and he spends time with me on his day off," she explained. She seems so happy almost like she's in a dream on cloud nine. "I've also made a new friend," she smiled wider. "Who?" I asked. "Her name is Ruby, she works here. She's become my best-friend in a way, because she's like someone I can talk to," she explained. I'm happy that she's happy.
She pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of them. All three of them smiling and looking happy. The girl looks extremely familiar. She's looks exactly like Tessa. "I can print it for you. Just send it to me," I offered. "Yeah. That sounds nice, thank you," she said.
She took her phone back and sent me the picture. Unfortunately I can't stay too long. "I'm sorry. I can't stay too long," I frowned. "But I promise to come back as soon as I can," I quickly added. She nodded understandingly. I stood up and hugged her goodbye.
I grabbed my bag and walked away.
I'm going to see if Tessa knows who this girl is. I have a strange feeling that something funny is going on here.
I drove down the highway towards my job. It'll take me two hours to get there, so around 8. Hopefully I make it in time to see Tessa before she leaves for the night. "Call Theo," I said. My GPS paused and my phone began to call Theo.
"Hello," He said. "I'm gonna be home a little late. I'm trying to find Tessa to follow up a lead," I said. "A lead? You're a detective now?" He laughed at his own joke. It made a smile creep across my face. "No, I just think I've found something. I'll see you later," I said.
"Okay, call me when you're on your way," he said. "Okay, I love you, bye," I said. I hung up the phone.
I panicked when I heard a loud popping sound. "What the hell," I whispered to myself as I slowly stopped the car. I opened my door and stepped outside. The air in my left tire is gone because a huge gash in my tire. "Oh great! That's just great," I groaned as I kicked the tire. I have a spare but I have no idea how to use it.
I opened my door and reached in to grab my phone. I don't have any bars. "Of course my phone has no bars," I mumbled. As I swore to myself I heard a car rolling up next to me. I turned around to see a man behind the wheel. He's dressed in army uniform. "You look like you could use some help," he smiled.
"Ugh! Thank you, do you know how to change a car tire?" I asked. "Yeah," He said. He opened his car door and stepped out of it. He walked towards me and knelt down in front of it. "I'll get the spare," I smiled. I walked over to my trunk and opened it. Empty.
"I'm so sorry for wasting your time. I don't have a spare," I said awkwardly. "It's cool. I can drive you into the city," he offered. I thought about it for a moment. My options are staying here and waiting for some creep, or going with an Army man. I'll go with him.
"Sure. Let me just get my bag," I said. I grabbed my bag and car keys. He's already in the car waiting for me to get in. I quickly hopped into his car and buckled up. "No funny business either," I warned as I dangled my pepper spray in front of him. He chuckled and nodded his head.
I put the directions to my job into his GPS. "You know, you really shouldn't trust people so easily," he warned. I shifted in my seat and tighten my grip on the pepper spray. "What are you talking about?" I asked. "What made you get in? You don't know if I'm a creep? But you got in because of the uniform. What if I rented it? What if I am a creep?" He asked. His eyes shifted off the road and onto me.
I kept a strong poker face as I glared at him. My attention left him once the GPS let out a warning that we've been going the wrong way. "Stop the car," I demanded. "Or what? You'll pepper spray me?" He laughed.
My hands shook as I began to fiddle with the safety of the spray. He caught my actions and slammed his free hand onto my chest. The air left as I dropped the pepper spray. I clutched my chest in pain. He reached onto my lap and grabbed it out off my lap, he threw it out of the window as he drove.
"You're in for the ride of your life," he laughed.
