"Okay." Once the bell rang, everyone at the table stood up and all the students in the cafeteria seemed to form into one big group. Elena moved beside me, Janet by her side. I'd forgotten about everyone else at the table, let alone remember Janet was sitting near me as well. Dylan was now ahead of the crowd, Jared next to him.
"How was talking with Dylan?" Elena spoke above the cafeteria noise. I shrugged. "Fine." Elena smiled and then continued walking forward. I noticed Wes across the room, making his way towards me.
My face heated as he came closer to me. Elena was distracted by Janet and moved to the side. The closer Wes was getting, the more my breath quickened. It wasn't long before I felt a strong, but gentle grip on my arm, so as not to lose me in the sea of students exiting the cafeteria.
As I tried to walk forward, I felt myself being pulled back. Startled, a silent gasp fell from my lips. "Wait until everyone goes," Wes commanded. He was definitely close behind me.
Soon everyone was far ahead of us. Wes and I were alone in the cafeteria, other than the custodians distractedly cleaning the floors.
"Remember you have to walk with me from the bus. You told me you owed me a walk." He now felt extremely close to me. My heart pounded rapidly. I couldn't think coherently. All my attention was directed towards his steady grip and his deep voice. "Okay." The sound came out soft, a little shaky. Wes let go of his grip. "I'll be waiting," he said. I began walking through the doors of the hallway. I turned around one last time, and there he was looking back at me with intense blue eyes.
