"Okay, hurry up. They're by the gates," Lauren said before taking off to the construction sight. "Where are we going?" I asked Wes as he held onto my wrist and followed closely behind Lauren.
"The only thing separating this school from the private school near us is a line of trees and a wooden fence. Parker has a love-hate relationship with three of the guys there ever since last year," he explained.
"Why?" I questioned. "Parker used to be friends with them and skip school with them and go off into the inner city. I never joined them. They apparently met a few girls there and Parker ended up liking the same girl as one of the other guys, Aaron. The girl ended up liking Parker. I think there was a fight and each of the three guys turned against him."
"All because of one girl?" I said in disbelief. There was no way that could be the only reason. "That's what I thought too," Wes said, then glanced down at me. "But I get it now."
I smiled softly before he continued. "They tried to be friends again. Aaron said sorry, Parker accepted it, but it was never the same."
"What are the three guys like?" I asked as we entered a gap between two evergreen trees. There was a thin, unkempt gravelly trail that was blatantly old. The trees around us immediately darkened our surroundings.
Wes pulled me closer suddenly, catching me off guard. "See for yourself."
I looked ahead. The lack of trees around the gate created an expanse of nothing but dead grass and an old oak gate. There was a different feel to the area. It felt like we'd walked to a different town.
