Just seeing a girl, Riley nonetheless, look at him like that caused a disgusting feeling to course through me. I balled my hands into fists and looked down as Dylan started to laugh beside me.
"Before you get all jealous, take a look at how Wesley's reacting." I looked up to see Wes with repulsed look on his face and Riley with a petty frown. I could barely make out what Wes was saying, but whatever he had said, Riley had stopped the whole flirtation act altogether.
I felt a bit guilty at how much pride and happiness I got from knowing that Wes didn't care that a girl like that wanted him. "This is my next class," Dylan said unexpectedly. "I'll see you later, Flora." He sounded a little distant as he went walked inside.
I wondered if how I'd just reacted had anything to do with it. I felt kind of sad as I walked down the hall. I began walking and making my way to P.E. Those former emotions relating Dylan immediately melted away when I looked up briefly, seeing Wes staring straight down at me. My heart beat rapidly and I got an unusual sense of nervousness from his overpowering look.
"Want me to walk with you?" Wes asked. It felt more like a command than a question. "Sure. Gym is kind of far away, though. Where's your next class?" I asked back quietly. "I'll be late either way," Wes said quickly as we began walking down the hall.
I got a strong feeling he wasn't going to be present for sixth period. "Are you going to skip?" I asked bluntly. "Yeah," he said without hesitation. "Where do you go? Do you just walk around the school?" This time, he paused before what he said next. "I go outside usually. The teachers don't notice when I leave and come back through the lobby," he said casually. "But don't you care about your grade?" Wes shrugged. "Not really."
I couldn't help but to ask more. "When you go outside- does anyone come with you?" We were almost to the gym now. "Sometimes Hunter would come. That's how I met him, actually." I listened to everything he said intently. I was intrigued by every little thing I was learning about him. "Where do you go outside?" This time Wes turned to face me directly. "Why do you want to know so badly?" He asked, and his voice seemed out of character. It startled me a bit.
"I was just wondering," I answered quietly. He looked slightly sorry for his small outburst. "I go by the construction area," he said softer. "I doubt you'll come... but if you want you can go with me sometime. During a free period or study hall, of course. I don't think you'd want to skip and hurt your grade."
I would for you. I didn't have the courage to say anything else after that. Besides, we were at the gym now. "I'll see you," I said. Wes gave me a small smile and walked away. And as I stood by the gym, watching his retreating form, I just then noticed the sounds and voices coming from all the other students around me. Like everyone else didn't matter while I was with Wes.
