"I can't believe you! How could you skip school? That's not like you at all! This isn't my Flora! Why did you have to do it with that boy? What did you two do?" She spoke rapidly all at once.
It took me a few seconds to answer back. "I was only in the hallways. I'm sorry. It was a mistake. We just talked." I said each statement slowly as I remembered the what she had been told. She'd die if she knew I actually skipped school with someone else and did, well, that with Wesley.
She pinched the bridge of her nose. "You're grounded. For an entire day," she declared. I almost laughed when I realized that the one event I was supposed to go to was the mall. I almost argued when I decided that maybe it wasn't a good idea to go the mall. With Dylan there, it could end up going badly.
"Okay," I shortly said. My mom sighed. "I'm forgiving you because you've done this only once," she said, crossing her arms across her petite body. I smiled.
A car honking outside had me on high-alert. Elena was here! "Mom what do I say?" I panicked. "You did this to yourself, chica tonta." Then, she was walking back down the halls.
I opened the door and walked over to the bright red, slightly banged-up car. I began to feel nervous. It felt so weird, so awkward to be having to explain how I couldn't go. One window rolled down, Elena was in the passenger seat. "Hey Flora, what's wrong?" I sighed, my heart wrenching a little in my chest. Elena was nice enough to invite me when we hadn't known each other too well. And now I was basically rejecting her. At least, that's how I saw it.
"I can't go," I said quietly. "I was grounded for ditching. Elena frowned. "I'm sorry, Flora." I stood there a few seconds as a sad look casted in her eyes. "Elena? Are we going yet?"
