27: The Ups and Downs of Social Interaction

Tuesday 5th August is today's date, it's been a few days since Jack, Lee, Harvey and LJ left The White House. The now 9 year old, Harvey since moving has had a bit of a struggle making some new friends, even with the lessons he's been taught by his dads, brothers and sisters, also he just can't seem to start a conversation about anything in general with someone who he's never met before, when it comes to social interactions with new people in a unusual, confusing environment. Harvey sat with his younger brothers, John and LJ as the two were trying to show their older brother how to start a conversation with someone new, instead of him rattling on about bands and space which he knew that not a lot of people would like to sit and listen to day in and day out.

"It's not that hard to socialise with people, Harv," said LJ looking at his older brother sitting on the left side of him.

"That's easy for you to say, neurotypical!"

"What does that mean?" Questioned John looking confounded, as if he'd never heard of the word 'neurotypical' before

"Dear God, what is it like in your funny little brains? It must be so boring. It means that someone who is not autistic so, you, LJ, Caroline, June, Audrey, Dad, Daddy, Uncle Bobby, Uncle Robert and everyone else that we're related to that don't belong on the Autism Spectrum are neurotypical. Does that answer your question?"

"Sort of, so if we're that what are you?"

"I'm atypical because I'm Autistic, I'm an Aspie, so I belong on the Autism Spectrum, whereas you lot don't,"

"You don't have to sound rude about it, Harv we're only asking you questions," said LJ frowning disapprovingly at his elder brother

"Oh, shut up, LJ! You're so annoying, and you (turning towards John) you're just as annoying as him!"

"Well, if we're so annoying then I don't know why we have to put up with you!" Yelled LJ to his 9 year old brother. You would think that Harvey and John would be the ones to argue and fight with each other, with a 3 month age gap, but no the brothers with the three years age gap continuously argue and fight all of the time!. Whilst Harvey and LJ continued to shout and bawl at each other, John on the other hand was playing referee between the two bickering brothers, before someone gets physically hurt whether it be LJ hurling drum sticks or Harvey launching guitar picks in retaliation.
