It's the talk around camp. No, not Kayleigh and Riley dating.. that was a week ago. Now, a week later, all that I hear is how Mandee and Alex are together.
Why do I care? Um.. because she's psycho. So, I made the decision to talk to him after dinner at activity.
"Alex?" I say, as he's walking off alone.
He turns around and sees me. "Yeah, Grace?"
"I heard you're dating Mandee.."
"Oh really?" He asks, laughing, "By who?"
"About 20 different people."
"Well, 20 different people are all lying. We're not together. She's telling people that."
I shrug. "She's crazy."
He laughs. He just stares at me for a while and then says, "I miss you." ...what? Seriously?
"You were the one that made me choose."
"It was a mistake."
What do I say?
"I'm sorry."
He frowns at the ground. "Is that a no?"
"Yes, that's a no. I'm sorry. I'm just... I'd rather not get back together."
"Can we be friends?"
"I'd rather not." I frown and wince. I know I'm hurting him and I feel awful.
"Look, I know you hate me now, but I'm sorry. I was just afraid that you would cheat on me or something." I can hear the hurt in his voice and it's enough to make my heart break, then I register what he actually said and the heart break evolves into rage.
"You seriously thought I would cheat on you?! I LOVED YOU!"
"LoveD." He says, frowning again and putting emphasis on the 'd'.
"I'm sorry. I just.. don't anymore."
"Okay. I'll leave you alone." He says, looking at me sadly.
What do I say? 'No, don't?'
Instead, I just walk away. Maybe it's for the best. Or, maybe I'm making a huge mistake. Only time will tell.
