Summer Camp

Chapter Twenty

I am woken up by Kayleigh jumping on me and screaming, "GRACEY'S FACEY NEEDS TO WAKEY!" I groan. She laughs and hops off of me and says, "You missed breakfast!"

"Why didn't you guys wake me up?!"

Ella says, "We tried. You were like dead."

"Seriously?"

"Mhm."

Lexie sits on the end of my bed while I sit up and fix my hair. She throws something floppy at me and it hits my face. I gasp and look down. It's a pancake.

"We know pancakes are your favorite so Lexie sneaked some under her shirt."

I already have the pancake in my mouth when I spit it out and realization hits me. "This was under your shirt?"

"I have a tank top on!" She confirms, showing me.

Kayleigh and Ella burst out laughing and I go back to eating my pancakes. I look over at Haley and she's crying. Kayleigh follows my line of sight, sees her, and asks,"Haley! What's wrong?" Haley doesn't answer and as soon as I swallow down my first pancake, I still have 3 more.

"Did you want some pancakes?" I ask, handing some over to her.

She laughs and wipes her tears away. "No, I got plenty enough pancakes."

I go back to stuffing my face with pancakes and Haley says, "I'm just gunna miss you guys. I know I've been quiet all summer long and I am really shy, but I love listening to your guys's conversations. You're so funny! Especially Grace." Everyone turns and looks at me and my mouth is so full of pancake that it doesn't even close.\

Everyone bursts out laughing and I hurry up and swallow then smile at her and say, "Aw! Thanks, Haley!"

She wipes of all of her tears and continues, "And Lexie with her squeaky voice and braces."

Lexie says, "Hey!" We all look at her and burst out laughing.

"And Kayleigh with all of her knowledge and experience. You're a senior this year. This is the last year we're going to see you."

I gasp and so does Lexie, we both had not thought of that. Kayleigh nods and says, "I'm finishing high school this year and then next summer I'm getting ready for college. This is my last summer here. I love this camp and I'll definitely send my kids here." She looks around the cabin and smiles at all of us then continues, "Of all four years and all of the people I've had in my cabin, this year has been my favorite. I love you guys."

We all say "Awww" and tell her we love her, also. I start tearing up and say, "Shut up all of you with your sadness! You're ruining my pancakes!" I stand up and throw a pancake and Kayleigh.

She gasps and says, "You just wasted a pancake on me?!"

I look down and my pancake is on the dirty floor. "Now I really am going to start crying... PANCAAKKEEEE!"

I pick it up and Lexie walks up to me, throws the pancake back down on the ground, and grabs my hand. I look at her thinking 'what the hell?' She gets down on one knee and says, "I'll give you all of the pancakes you'll ever need, Grace. Marry me."

I take a bite of my last clean pancake and say, "I'm in it for the pancakes."

She gets up and hugs me, making me drop my last pancake. I scream and say, "Whyyyy?! NOOOOO!"

Lexie says, "I.. I'm so sorry."

Everyone laughs and I yell, "This is not funny!" They all laugh harder and Ella throws another pancake at me from under her shirt. I catch it like my life depends on it and immediately shove at least half of the thing in my mouth.
