Tonight, there's a dance. It's the last dance of the camp, which makes me extremely sad. The first one, I was with Alex. The second one, I was with Brady. Both times, I never actually danced. I always got out of the dance right away and sneaked off with them.
What even happens at these dances? Wow, it's sad that this is the last dance and I'm finally figuring out what actually goes on at them.
I get dressed in a purple sundress with white flowers and a tan belt on the belly button, along with whíte flip-flops. I curl my hair. My whole cabin looks amazing. Again, we would win the award for cutest cabin, no doubt about it.
We walk in and I can feel the bass from the stereo. Like always, the tables are spread apart so there is a dance floor in the middle. The disco ball shines on everyone and shares its light with the walls and floor.
Kayleigh yells over the music, "I have no guy to look for!"
Lexie responds, "Me neither! Let's dance girls!"
I laugh and say, "I'm waiting for Brady!"
Kayleigh points at me and says, "You suck!"
I laugh and shrug. They walk off and start dancing. Wow.. dancing that bad should be illegal. I look around, actually taking in what's happening. Unlike all of my old dances in Pennsylvania, there was no grinding. Thank gosh for that.
And, the girls all had on decent dresses. Addie's was along the line of being close to indecent. It was pink, tight, lacey, and did not go down very far, to say the least.
Wait, who is she dancing with?! I get a good look and it's most definitely Jason. They both look like they're enjoying themselves.
Go, Grace! Plan successful! I smile to myself and see Riley walking up to me. "Are you just going to stand here and not dance?" He asks, loudly.
"I'm not a good dancer!" I yell back.
"Whatever! It's a dance, you dance!" He grabs my arm and pulls me along while I yell, "Butter! No!" I laugh when I'm in the middle of a bunch of sweaty, dancing high-schoolers with Riley in front of me.
Just pretend like what happened yesterday, didn't even happen. You're just dancing with your best friend.
That secretly loves you... Grace, stop.
I look around, not even knowing how to dance to a fast song. It seems like everyone is just jumping and wiggling. I laugh when my eyes land on Riley who is jumping and wiggling, also. It's obvious that he can't dance, just like me. I follow what he's doing.
The entire camp looks like a bunch of flopping fish with zero dancing skills. Riley laughs and says, "There you go! You're dancing!"
"Barely!" I yell back.
I quickly get a headache from jumping around and the music being eardrum-breaking loud.
"I'm gunna go get a drink!" I yell at Riley and he says, "Okay!"
I maneuver myself through the maze of crazy, jumping high-schoolers and get a drink from the drinking fountain. The cold water instantly slightens the pain in my head and I'm tempted to step outside to cool off even more.
No way, Grace. You are staying inside and witnessing this entire dance! I start heading back to the dance floor where Riley is dancing with himself to a different fast song that I can't reckognize. Halfway there, the song changes and is much slower.
The single people (Lexie, Kayleigh, Ella, Haley for examples) all clear the dance floor. I look around for Brady and my vision is blocked by a wall of male.
