"Hi, Gravy." Riley says as he sits beside me in the Arts and Crafts station. Sadly, I wish that I had answered 'yes' when Brady asked if he had to come in here with me again for the third time this week.
"Hi."
"Look," he says, while cutting a peice of blue colored paper, "I'm sorry about what happened last week. I shouldn't have kissed you, it was a mistake. But I've missed you all week. I miss my Gravy." He hands me a blue raspberry ring pop and I take it and laugh.
"How did you get this?!" I ask, smiling like crazy.
"Bribed a chubby kid in Black cabin."
I laugh like crazy as I slip off the wrapper and slide the ring pop on my finger. I look at it and hug Riley. "I missed you, too, Butter," I let go and continue, "but if you kiss me again I'm done for good. I am your best friend, nothing more. You are Kayleigh's, I am Brady's. And I couldn't be happier."
He nods and says, "Okay. I promise, I won't."
I break my pencil and grumble to myself. I grab another one and continue sketching. I'm drawing a picture of a bird. I saw a beautiful bright red bird today and mentally took a picture of it and now it's transferred to my sketchpad. I've been adding a new sketch every day for a couple weeks now.
I finish the outline and start shading it with a red colored pencil. It shows lightness and darkness with the harder I shaded and lighter I shaded. I color the beak yellow and orange and the same with the feet. I switch to brown for the branch I saw the bird on and outline the entire thing in black while adding the black lines on the chest and head of the bird. I look over at Riley who is watching me with his mouth gaped wide open.
"What?" I ask, adding finishing touches.
"That's amazing. My version of that bird.. do you want to see my version of that bird?"
"Yes." He goes to grab my sketch book and I hit his hand. "MINE!" I yell, while grasping my book.
"Me-ow." He says, laughing and grabbing a peice of sheet paper. He draws a big red circle with a littler circle on top and a triangle.. im guessing thats the beak? He draws two legs (sticks) as the feet and says, "There. Masterpeice." I burst out laughing and he frowns.
"Well, not all of us are artistic geniuses and prodigies when it comes to you!"
We both laugh again and I say, "I am not a prodigy, I just am very.. creative."
"Yeah, creative." He says, rolling his eyes.
I close my sketchbook up and look at what he's cutting. He's cutting a big circle. "What are you going to make?" I ask and he looks at me emotionlessly.
"I'm just making a circle."
I say, "Okay," while trying to hold my laughter, "Enjoy your circle. I'm off!"
He waves and says, "Bye, Gravy!"
When I get back to the cabin, Brady is leaning against my door to Purple.
"Well, hi." I say hugging him. He hugs back, his arms tightly around me. I intake his smell, a mixture of Axe and water.
"How was Arts and Crafts?" He asks, unwrapping his arms and sliding his fingers between mine.
"It was great!"
"What'd you draw today?"
"Just a bird."
"When do I get to see this amazing sketchbook?"
"At the end of the summer!" I say.
"Not fair."
