"Percy, can I talk to you for a second?" Sally asked the six year old in his room.

Percy looked to his mother and nodded. He couldn't help but notice the sad face she had when she looked to him. He thought to himself 'Had I done something wrong? Is it about my grades? About dad?' He asked himself that question a lot of the time. Ever since that day a year ago, his father hasn't visited. Normally he would've visited for his birthday and Christmas, but he hasn't.

"It's about your dad," Sally said. "He hasn't visited in a long time, right?" Percy nodded. "He had to leave. He couldn't stay here anymore.

"He can't come and be with us because of where he lives and where he works," Sally spoke quietly in fear that if she spoke any louder, she would hurt percy more than she should. "I cansend him pictures and letters, but he cant come back."

Percy looked to his mother. "Dad is not coming home?"

"No sweetie, he's not." Sally answered and held percy in a hug. "He's not. Its just you and me...you and me" she kissed the top of his head and hugged him tighter.

The next day he woke up to his mother saying it was time for school. He didn't want to get up. He felt no need for it when there nothing to look forward to after. When his father was here, he would always think that one day he'd drop by and spend time. Even if it didn't happen, it could. Now that it was never going to happen, why go somewhere when you're just going to be upset.

"Percy, sweetly," Sally called out from the door. "It's time to get up."

Begrudgingly, he rose from his bed and to the restroom to do his daily routine of brushing his teeth and using the facility. After he used the restroom he got dressed and went to the kitchen to see his mom making eggs and bacon. He ate his breakfast and went downstairs to get to the bus stop down the street and went to school.

His day was normal. Did everything he had to do, but during recess he didn't go play with the other children like he normally would do. He didn't go play with Luke. Didn't jump down from the slide or off the swings when it reached it highest point. Percy sat on the sides. Starring at the sky hoping that his dad would come back from the stars above like he told him.

Shortest by far and I wanted to say that, yes, children as young as 6 can get depression. It's not that uncommon for children whose mothers/father's have left them, make them feel like they're not loved. So please don't comment saying "he's six! He can't depression!!!"
