"C'mon, Pepper! Let me take fighting classes!" Percy followed the tall blonde, CEO of Stark Industries around their beach house. House was a loose term for the multimillion dollar mansion that was built on the edge of the cliff overlooking the pacific. "Please, I'm old enough."
"You may be old enough, but there's no need for you to learn, okay?" Pepper grabbed clothes from the dresser. "If it makes you feel any better, I can ask Tony about you taking classes. And what kind of martial arts classes are you thinking about taking?"
"I don't know," He climbed on to the bed and helped Pepper fold them. "But what if I trained at SHIELD with aunt Nat and mister Clint?"
Pepper stayed quiet for a moment thinking. It would be good for Percy to defend himself if he needs to, especially since the alien attack not to long ago. But he's still young, barely eleven with his birthday four months ago at the beginning of his first year of junior high. It wouldn't stop him though, his age was not a reason for the headstrong tween, so Pepper decided to make a deal with him. "How about this?"
Percy stopped folding. "If you can pass sixth grade with an 80 or above, you can spend the summer training with Natasha, deal? But only if it's an 80 or above."
"An 80?!" His mouth dropped open at the thought of such a high grade. "Pepper you know that's out of my brain range!"
"You have a consistent high 70 range, a few more points won't hurt," Pepper smiled and put all the folded clothes in the suitcase. It was the last one Percy had to pack for clothes but that doesn't mean his travel bagwas ready. "And besides, if you really want to take martial arts classes, you would make sure to get that 80."
She lifted the suitcase off the bed and rolled it out of his room with the second one in her other hand. As much as Pepper loved the Malibu house,it was a hot spot for Tony and the paparazzi. His parties almost every other week, the secret photographers hiding in the bushes or flying in helicopters, or maybe it was because just last night one of Tony's suits had tried to kill them in their bedroom. But whatever was going on Pepper had enough. She had taken jurisdiction and decided to leave the Malibu house midway during Percy's christmas break to a place a bit more discreet, which was why she had the rest of their pseudo family's luggage packed and ready to go.
With a grunt, Pepper lifted Percy's luggage over the railing of the living room balcony and onto the floor startling Tony below. She looked over the rail and saw Tony turning to look behind him and speak. It wasn't that surprising to see him talking to nothing in fact, he might be talking to Jarvis, but then she heard a voice talk back. A female's voice. "Tony? Is somebody there?"
Pepper walked down the stairs and climbed over the giant plush rabbit's leg--Tony bought her one as an 'I'm sorry' gift--and saw who the mysterious girl voice was. She could quite remember who she was but she looked very familiar. Her brown hair falling right under her shoulders, a simple and casual business suit, and a mischievous glare sent Tony's way. It was then when Pepper put it together...She was an ex-fling.
It didn't bother her much. She knew that Tony had many ex-lovers, previous flings, multiple one night stands, so seeing another one had no effect. Pepper walked over to the two making a metal note on what they were talking about and Percy walking down the stairs, curious over what was happening. He couldn't make it far before the sounds of bullets shattered the glass and impaled themselves into any object in front of them.
Outside were two attack helicopters with their guns pointing directly toward the house. Quickly, Percy dived into the lap of the huge stuffed animal, hoping to escape the onslaught of bullets. It didn't provide much cover as it was torn to pieces in two minutes.
"Get her and find Percy and get out of here!" Percy heard Tony yell to Pepper. He looked to his parental figures and saw Tony on the ground with a suited Pepper on top, she nodded her head and flew out of the building with the girl Percy didn't know as best she could.
"Tony!" Percy yelled and tried to make his way to his uncle, it was very hard. The bullets continued to rain hellfire in the building and the floor was quickly becoming more and more unstable by the second. A large crack ran from wall to wall, the half of the building that was suspended over the ocean was slipping down and Percy was falling with it"Tony!"
"Percy!" Tony looked to the eleven-year old and tried to make his way to him. Percy's hands were grasping onto the edge of the split between the house to prevent himself from falling to the ocean below. And try at Tony might, he couldn't reach him. The furniture that he bought now dragged him down to the broken window's edge and he could do nothing as Percy struggled to climb back to safe ground.
The last that Tony saw of his nephew he was dangling off the edge and strange green colors surrounded him. And then the water obscured his vision and prevented him from seeing if Percy was safe.
Percy couldn't look down to see his uncle fall into the watery depths below him, all he could do was focus on his hands gripping for dear life on the edge. His fingers were aching and his forearms were beginning to cramp. Percy didn't have any upper body strength to pull himself up seeing as how he barely had enough to push Tony off of him when the grown adult decided to crush Percy beneath his behemoth weight.
No matter how much he tried, Percy couldn't lift himself enough to make his elbows rest on the edge. So he instead tried to use his magic to teleport like he did during the attack on New York. Percy shut his eyes and concentrated, his mind both panicked and focused on the task at hand. But nothing came of it. No green swirls or floating orbs surrounded him. He tried again, and again, and again till Percy yelled in frustration and rage unknowing of the magic he didn't know he summoned teleported him onto the rubble of the fallen roof.
Just like when he appeared in Stark tower, his breath was quick and short. Sweat glistened on his forehead and his chest heaved trying to regain a steady pace. Hands and knees shook as Percy tried to stand. The uneven rubble proving to be very hard to traverse, even if he could breath and wasn't walking like a newborn deer.
"Percy!" He heard Pepper call out, her voice strained and on the verge of tears. "Percy where are you!?"
"Pepper!" Percy yelled out and made his way to her the best he could.
Eventually, Percy found the blonde. Her hands were dirty and a cut or two was on her forearms, probably caused by her trying to lift concrete and other heavy objects. The blonde hair that she usually kept tidy and clean was tangled and barely held back by the hair tie halfway down her back. But that didn't matter, all that mattered was the woman he considered his second mother was alive and hugging him tight.
"Percy, oh my god you're okay," She gripped Percy's shirt tight and kissed his dusty and dirty hair. "I'm so glad you're okay."
"He fell, pep," Percy cried. "He's in the ocean, he fell and everything fell on him."
Pepper didn't say anything but held him closer. "C'mon let's go. Let's go and get you cleaned up, yeah?" Percy nodded his head as Pepper led him out of the rubble and to the paramedics that looked for any injuries on his head.
"Oh, and Percy?" Pepper cleaned his face with a wet towel the paramedics gave her. "Forget about the deal, I'm putting you in an after school program with Natasha."
"What why?"
"You need to protect yourself because I'm not gonna be there all the time," She scrubbs off a tough bloch of dirt on his cheek. "I'm going to try and talk to Nick Fury to see if he can arrange something, but you have to promise me you wont get hurt too badly?"
"I promise."
Pepper smiles and hugs him again, placing a kiss on his forehead.
