Dark swirling clouds hung above the castle. As wagon carrying Felix and Seth, they passed the small town just outside the gates of the castle. The people looked at them with sorrow. As they drew closer to the castle gates, soldiers who stood around the town followed the wagon. An old woman ran up to the wagon and took hold of Felix's hand.
"Please save us!" she yelled. A soldier took her by the arm and shoved her into a group of people staring. The soldier wore dark armor and wore masks where blue fire seemed to be in place of their eyes. Felix watched as more soldiers marched behind the wagon. Soon the wagon stopped and two soldiers took each Felix and Seth out. Their grips were iron strong. Seth struggled from their grip and almost freed himself, but the soldier took the hilt of his sword and struck Seth, knocking him slightly unconscious. The soldier ended up half carrying him, half dragging him. Felix was too tired to even struggle himself. Felix was startled by a noise, a roar to be exact. He looked up at the castle and saw a long spout of flames lick the side of the walls.
"Dragon?" Felix thought. He was then jerked forward and was forced to walk with the soldier. They all walked across the drawbridge. The drawbridge was not made out of wood but out of stone. The wagon rattled across the cobblestone bridge making Felix's teeth rattle. The castle loomed over their heads as they made their way through a dark tunnel. The driver took a left turn inside the tunnel. Another soldier was standing by the large gate, when they reached it, the soldier opened up the gate, letting them pass through. Felix blinked out bright light when they exited the tunnel. They were in a large arena with large gates surrounding the walls. Seth, still dazed, looked around and cursed under his breath. "This isn't good..."
Felix was about to ask him what he meant but was cut off when the driver of the wagon dragged them out and tossed them to the ground as if they were rag dolls. Seth was tossed into the wall, making him hit his head. He slumped against the wall. Felix rolled on the hard ground scraping his hands trying to steady himself. As Felix stood up, he just saw the driver walk to a cage in the wall. He pulled a lever and the caged opened. It opened slowly and when it was fully open there was a split second of silence. The area was so quiet that Felix could hear his own heartbeat inside his ears. Suddenly there was an explosion from the cage. Stone, smoke and fire came from the cage. Felix froze in fear for what he saw come out of the cage. A large dark sandy colored dragon came barreling out the cage. The dragon spewed fire all around. It then looked at Seth and Felix with wild scared eyes. A loud bang came from somewhere in the area and the dragon started toward the two at full speed.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alina was alone in her cage. Only a single skylight that was 10 feet above her shone down onto the cold floor and a small window looking into the next cage. Her body was cold and she could see her breath swirl in the dim light. Alina's cage was just big enough to walk a few steps. She walked to one side and stretched out a wing.
'How is all this possible? Would this world have been better off if my brother and I had never gone through that door?'
Alina jumped when she heard a loud clang in the cage next to her. Roaring was heard. Alina craned her neck down to look into the window. In the cage next to her was a dragon, much like her, only much bigger. The dragon was dark blue with gold accents all along its body. This dragon was in chains. They were tied to its neck and all four legs. The dragon looked her way and sprayed fire her way. Alina ducked her head just before the fire reached her. The fire licked at her shoulder and Alina closed her eyes expecting shering pain of the fire, but felt nothing. She looked through the window again and saw that the dragon was badly injured. Long gashes and burn marks covered its body. She caught eye of the dragon's right side of its mouth, there was a long gash in the side. There were also long cuts along its left eye. Alina wanted to free the dragon from the chains and help it escape. She watched the dragon slowly tire from pulling on the chains.Soon the sun had gone down and Alina felt herself change back into a human. The change happened just as slow as when she turned into a dragon. It started as tingling in her limbs and Alina then felt herself shrink back down. She coughed smoke and felt her lungs burning for fresh air. The jacket that Dimitri gave her was scorched on the ends. Alina then heard more coughing in the cell next to her. The window was just above her now, but luckily there was a few steps up to the window. Alina looked through the window and gasped. There was a person in the cell instead of a dragon.
