I was so happy when I got up that next morning- well afternoon. I hopped out of bed, and headed straight into my closet.
"No, no, no," I said as I went through all of my clothes.
I had no clothes that could be representable; absolutely nothing. That only meant one thing; shop until I find the perfect outfit. I went into the kitchen, wrote a note to Aunt Matilda, grabbed my purse, and headed out. Of course, I tried to find the store that had the balance of stylish and cheap.
I found the perfect store, and I shopped there for a couple hours. By that time, it was time to get home. I paid for my new outfit, and quickly walked back home. I noticed Aunt Matilda left a not on the counter that explained she was called into work. I quickly dismissed it and went upstairs to get ready.
' Hopefully this is good enough,' I thought.
Soon after I fixed my hair, I heard the doorbell ring.
"Hey, wow you look beautiful," Cody said as I opened the door.
"Thanks, you look good to," I attempted.
He chuckled, " You ready?"
I nodded, " Yeah, I'm ready."
"Great, shall we?" he asked extending his arm.
"We shall," I said accepting his arm.
He walked me downstairs to his car. he opened the passenger's door and closed it as I got in. Before he climbed in the driver's seat, Cody checked his breath. I thought it was adorable.
" So, where are we going?" I asked.
" You'll see," he said driving off out of the city.
"Um, Cody? Where are we going?" I asked a little nervously.
He pulled into the forest a couple miles later.
"Trust me, you'll love it." He said as he pulled me out of the passenger's seat.
He led me to an opening in the middle of the forest. I smiled as I admired, clearly all the work he put into this date. There were candles, a picnic blanket, beautiful wildflowers everywhere. It felt like I was back home.
"This is amazing, Cody."
" I overheard you talking to your friend that you were from Louisiana, so I thought you'd like it," he said.
" I don't like it, I love it!" I exclaimed.
He chuckled as we say down and started eating.
We talked about each other for the longest time, mostly about our childhood, our likes, dislikes, you know, all that jazz.
"So what do you want to be when you grow up?" Cody asked halfway joking.
I laughed, " I don't know. I haven't thought about it. Maybe I'd want to be whoever I want to be, at least for right now." I answered.
He looked at me in awe, "That's really awesome. I wish I ha that choice," he said.
I looked at him puzzled, "What you mean?" I asked.
" My dad, he's always told me ' you're going to be a great lawyer one day son.' he always pushed me towards that field. I don't want to be lawyer, I never have. What I really want to be is an artist. I love art. But I guess that's just all a dream," he said sadly.
" Well then, let's do this. Let's just be whoever we want to be when we are together. We don't have to pretend like something we aren't. we can just be ourselves. How 'bout that?" I said.
He smiled, " I like that idea. You plan on seeing me again?" He asked.
I nodded, " I don't judge people on their looks. I judge them by their character. You sir, have good character."
" You do too," he said.
I looked at my watch. " I better get going,"
"Yeah, it's getting late."
We got back in the car, and drove back to civilization. He walked me to my door once we got to the penthouse.
" I'll see you soon, Alaina" he said giving me a kiss on my hand.
" See you soon," I said back.
He smiled and walked off. The best date ever.
