" Alaina! Wake up! We're gonna be late!" Ain't Matilda screamed from across the hall.
I groaned, " Late for what?"
" My job of course now come on and get dressed into something cute."
I staggered across my room. I went to my wardrobe looking for something that can allow me to not get killed over fashion. I finally found a "nice" outfit and walked downstairs to meet my aunt. She looked disappointed as she looked at my clothes and gave me a ' we are going shopping soon' look. I groaned and climbed into the SUV.
" Now remember, most of the people here are experts in fashion and take their work seriously." she glared at me " Make sure you get tons of advice from them."
" But Aunt Matilda, why would I take advice from people who have plastic surgery and lips sticking out to Timbuktu?" I asked as innocently as I could.
Aunt Matilda turned the darkest shade of red and kept silent the rest of the drive. When we pulled up, I could see the tall glass building with my aunt's name on it. Yep, this is gonna be a long day.
We walked in, and everyone greeted Aunt Matilda with a good morning and hello. Me? They just glared at me with a stern face as if I had done a crime. Apparently I have ( a fashion crime that is).
We walked to her office on the top floor.
" I need you to run this letter down to the mail room for me. It's in the basement." Aunt Matilda instructed.
I grabbed it and took the elevator to the basement. It was a hot, and cramped room. It wasn't like they show on tv where it's dark, cold and creepy. It reminded me of home; the temperature that is. a man in his early 60's came up to me.
" What you need sweetie?" He asked.
" I came to give you this letter. It needs to be mailed," I informed.
He took the letter happily.
" I can sure do that for you. Say, aren't you Ms. Matilda's kid?" He asked.
" No sir, I'm her niece."
He examined me closely. "Ah, I see the resemblance. I'm Martin, I'm the head of the mail room."
" Hi. I'm Alaina." I said smiling for the first time since I got here.
He smiles as well, " My two helpers aren't here today, but they will be tomorrow. Why don't you swing by? I'm sure they'd love to have you visit." Martin said.
"Ok sure. I'd love to." I said.
" Great, see you tomorrow." Martin walked off.
I smiled as I rode the elevator back upstairs. Martin wasn't so bad. Maybe coming to work with Aunt Matilda won't be so bad after all.
