Chapter 10

KEVIN

The whole senior class stood outside in the blinding snow. The sun was brighter than usual that day. Double D, Kevin, and Nazz all stood together in the middle of the cluster of students. Sarah stood on a little mound of snow she created so she could look over everyone. As always, her voice was loud and she was going on about everything that would be happening throughout the day. Apparently all of the groups were getting together for a mini-Olympics. As interesting as it was,Kevin didn't really seem to focus on Sarah. His eyes were trailing off to the noisy dorks off to the side.

     Ed and Eddy were snickering and hitting each other back and forth.Considering how strong Ed was, it was no surprise that Eddy was getting irritated and punched Ed as hard as he could. "Dorks,"Kevin whispered to himself while glaring at them. A fire burned in his stomach when Eddy glanced over at him. Obviously he was fuming back.

     "Each team will have a group of four. No more, no less!" Sarah yelled.

     Kevin just grinned, knowing well enough that Eddy would be trying to push his way through to call dibs on Double D. Obviously this wasn't going to happen. Kevin reached outwards with both arms and wrapped his right around Nazz and his left around Double D. Stealing another glance at Eddy, Kevin was astonished that a face could turn that shade of red.

     "We are so gonna win this!" Nazz cheered. Kevin always wondered why she never stayed as a cheerleader. Although she complained about the girls and the stereotypes of it all, she did enjoy the part of encouraging others and cheering on her friends.

     Kevin turned back to his group, noticing Sarah marching up to them."Alright team. I don't expect anything less than first. So if you're not gonna bring your A-game, you better borrow someone else's."

     Everyone snickered. Kevin found himself glancing one more time at the other Eds, watching them team up with Jimmy and Johnny. Eddy was still fuming. Protecting Double D from his toxic friends was are warding task on its own. Watching the shorty-Ed freak out was just icing on the cake. Kevin returned his attention back to his group.They'd been talking for a couple minutes while he was focused on Eddy. Nazz and Sarah took off on both sides of Double D, talking him off about how their chances were of winning. Surprisingly, Edd had it calculated. Kevin just smirked and scratched the back of his neck before following behind them.

     By the time they reached the lifts, it was only a few minutes of waiting. Double D passed the time pretty well by continuing their conversation about who could win the competition. His estimates were waning in their favor, but they did have to worry a bit about the team filled with nothing but jocks. Where they lacked in brains, they made up in bronze.

     Finally, a lift arrived to take two of them. "Nazz and I will meet you guys up there." Sarah volunteered as she grabbed Nazz by the coat and pulled her along. Kevin and Edd chuckled, admiring how crazy Sarah was.

     "So," Kevin began, "you said we have a good chance of winning?"

     Double D nodded his head. "Indeed we do. As long as we don't underestimate their skills and weaknesses and play to the geographic makeup of this slope, I'm sure we'll stand victorious in the outcome of this competition."

     Kevin just shrugged and pursed his lips. "Sounds good to me."Another lift appeared before them and Kevin and Double D were quick to board.

     The ride was slow, but it was kind of relaxing. It gave Kevin a chance to just enjoy the scenery and give it break for a bit."Kevin?" Double D broke the silence. Kevin looked back to Edd who seemed like he was scrambling to find his words. Something must've really wracked his brain. "Earlier, when Sarah was giving her speech over the agenda of today's progressions, you...I'm not entirely certain what I should address it as. You hugged me, almost?"
