KEVIN
"A little to the left." Kevin stepped to his right, not even breaking a sweat.
Double D rubbed his chin in thought. "Okay, perfect!" Kevin froze. He set the engine in the machine. "It's almost done." Edd said, his excitement bleeding out in his tone. Kevin stepped away, not wanting to get in the way. Double D grabbed his tools and went right to work.
"Man, he's really going at it." Nazz's bubblegum popped, chewing it back up.
"Yeah." Kevin smirked. He leaned against the craft table with his arms crossed. "I don't think I've seen him this excited all trip."
Nazz and Kevin watched Double D tighten nuts and bolts, screw in screws, hammer in nails, and fuse wires together. "Still can't believe he built this thing in a few hours."
"You're talking about the guy that built a cardboard city in one morning." Kevin laughed.
"Don't forget the thing he made to get that quarter off the sidewalk."
"That thing was huge!" Kevin and Nazz broke out in tears, laughing at the freaky inventions that Double D had mustered up throughout the years.
Overhearing the laughter, Double D turned to observe. He was quick to smile the second he noticed what was going on. "Don't count me out for a good laugh or two, but what is it we're chortling about?" Double D placed the screwdriver in his hand on top of the table closest to him before returning back to the others.
Kevin and Nazz exchanged a smile. "It's nothing." he said, not wanting to hurt his feelings. "You almost done with that thing?" he asked, eying it up.
"Indeed I am. All it needs is a test run."
"I'll do it!" Kevin offered quickly, ready to take the new machine out for a spin.
Double D stepped in front of Kevin, chest-to-chest with him. "I do appreciate your quick volunteering, but I don't think now is the best time. Nor are you the best candidate to handle such a device."
"So," Kevin stretched the word, "that's a no?" Kevin crossed his arms and raised a brow.
Nerves instantly took over Double D. His palms started to sweat profusely. His knees shook rapidly. "Well, you see. Kevin. This machine. It isn't quite prepared for someone of your stature. It's just a prototype and it needs to be handled delicately."
Nazz hopped down from the table and stood next to Kevin with her hand on her hip. "He's saying you'll probably break it."
Kevin narrowed his gaze at Double D, only furthering his nervous behavior. "Okay." Kevin shrugged, loosening his posture. Just like that, Double D sighed in relief, relaxing his own body. Kevin smirked, "You should've seen the look on your face." And just like that, Double D's face was red again.
"Relax, Double D." Nazz comforted him. "Kevin just doesn't know when to be nice." Nazz nudged Kevin in the rib with a decent amount of force. Kevin grabbed his side with a wince of pain. "When do you think you'll test it out?" She looked down at Double D's new invention. Kevin did the same, admiring it completely. He wanted nothing more than to be the first one to test it out.
Edd grabbed a tarp from the corner of the room and draped it over his invention. "Probably not until tomorrow. Or possibly the day after that. We were fortunate enough to have time today to work. Unfortunately, with Sarah's scheduling and everything that's going on at the moment, I'm not sure I'll ever get to test it. It's a shame, really."
