DOUBLE D

A chill ran down Edd's body as he took the first sip out of his warm cocoa. He smiled warmly as his body relaxed.

What an exciting start to the day. Nazz had done a remarkable job on her event. Each time around the rink made her faster and faster. Double D was almost surprised that she didn't win. Seeing her wane in the last stretch, it was clear she wasn't going to take first. However, she did surprise him by pushing harder than ever to take second.

Double D turned from the cocoa station, careful as to not spill his drink. Thud! Double D yelped in uncontrollable volume. Brushing off the hot liquid from his torso, Double D stared at the boys in front of him. "Eddy, have you gone completely insane?"

"I should be asking you the same thing." Eddy clenched his teeth.

"And what are you inferring by that?" Double D's voice lowered to almost a whisper.

Eddy shoved his fists in his pockets and took a brooding look to the side. "Nothing. Let's just go, Ed."

"But Eddy, I want to stay and talk with Double D." The big guy gave the biggest puppy eyes he could manage. It was clear Eddy was very upset or else Ed wouldn't have had to try so hard.

"Let's go, Ed!" He barked back. Ed frowned and stepped away. "See you later, DD." And just like that, they left. Double D stood alone with his shirt covered in hot chocolate and a voice in the back of his mind, pushing him lower than what he was already feeling. Moments passed before Double D even had the idea to go back to the room.

Edd took a step towards the exit, "Hey, Edd!" Double D looked over to the obnoxious yelling. It was Johnny? He strolled up to Double D with Plank in one hand and a can in the other. "How've you been, buddy?"

"Things could be much better. I'm actually going back to my room to catch up on some reading."

"But you can't go now." Johnny seemed almost sad to hear Double D wanting to leave.

Edd only pursed his lips into a makeshift smile. "It's okay, Johnny. I'll come back in a little bit and we all can sit down and get lost in conversation."

Johnny rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't know about all that, but it'd be cool if we all hung out!" With a smile on his simple face, Double D couldn't help but to blush at his simplicity. It was almost as if Johnny went through life without a care in the world, only caring about the people he loves. Of course, the love of his life was a wooden board. Despite his careless imagination, he was a good person. Edd admired that.

"Yes, Johnny. I'd very much enjoy hanging out."

"Great!" A hint crossed Johnny's mind. "Wait a minute. Why aren't you with Ed n' Eddy? I thought you three were like brothers?"

The previous feeling returned to pinch the nerve on Double D's neck. Edd cleared his throat, trying not to make the conversation awkward for himself. "You could say we're taking a temporary leave of absence."

"Well, whatever that means, I hope you guys work things out. Even though you guys caused a lot of trouble." Johnny just smiled.

A cold shiver ran up Double D's body. His face reddened at the memories of causing an unnecessary amount of commotion in the cal-do-sac. "Yes. Well, I can assure you that my days of being troublesome are over. I've seen the errors of my ways and have decided to use my gifts of intelligence for far better goals and objectives."

Johnny grinned excessively. "You used to make really cool stuff for Eddy. I wonder if you could make something here? They have this tool shed and a sign up thing where you just have to put your name and stuff on it. They give you all this cool stuff that you can use." Edd's eyes lit up with excitement over the possibilities. "Me and Plank here tried to do it but the people said we were just being kids. I guess it's just not for us."

"Thank you, Johnny. You've just given me a brilliant idea." Overjoyed, Double D darted away from Johnny, who only waved in the distance, obliviously happy to help in any way.

"Good luck!" Double D heard in the distance. But there was no time for a reaction. He was on a mission.

Through the crowd of people, Edd raced through the halls for his life. Finally, after reaching the lobby, Double D found Kevin and Nazz sitting by the roaring fire. The two were in deep conversation. Kevin smiled and Nazz giggled. Double D made a mental note of the cute connection that the two of them shared. However, he was still on a mission. Edd raced again until he was standing before them. "I've been looking everywhere for the two of you." he panted.

"It looks like it. You need to sit down?"

"No time." Double D caught his breath. "I've just been given the most wonderful idea."

Kevin leaned back. "Lay it on us."

"Alright. Over the years, I've used my skills to assist Eddy in creating contraptions that are capable of causing harm and trickery to and against others. What if I used my skills to do something for the better of the people around me?"

Shrugging, Nazz smirked. "I think that's awesome."

"What'd you have in mind?" Kevin asked.

DoubleD smirked pridefully.
