Chapter 4 - Jenna's barbeque and a new enemy.

~Flashback/Dream 1864, the Lockwood Mansion;~

Stefan's POV;

As I stood with Katherine at the Lockwood's party I felt my eyes light up and my lips lift into the biggest smile of my life.

I was overwhelmed with happiness that Katherine had chosen me to escort her tonight. I felt no guilt for my brother who was watching us with upset, all I cared about was the beautiful Katherine standing infront of me and she had chosen me, she had actually chosen me.

I knew when I was with Katherine something changed inside of me, I became this jealous and greedy person who wanted her all to myself, and noone else could have her.

The dance begun in the hall, the dance of the near touch and Katherine eyed me playfully as we walked into the middle. Katherine looked absolutley beautiful tonight, like an angel. With her silk brown locks curled by her cheeks, complimenting her brown eyes and rosy cheeks as she stood in her long formal dress with a cameo necklace around her slick neck.

I began to walk around her as Katherine teased with playful eyes "Look who found his dancing shoes." I grinned and leaned closer towards her lips but Katherine pulled away and said with a smirk "No touching Mr. Salvatore, those are the rules." I walked round her the other way and muttered with a grin "I thought you didn't believe in rules."

I glanced over Katherine's shoulder and at Damon who was watching us with a frown. I looked away from him sharply and said with a smile "My brother is still upset that you chose me to escort you." Katherine grinned and teased "Well, Damon needs to concede that his younger brother is the better dancer." I smirked as her sweet giggle made my heart tingle.

She came to a stop and said whilst looking over my shoulder in Damon's direction "Looks like he found someone to occupy his time." I turned towards my brother and saw his eyes gazing into another girls, and his hands holding hers. It was Elena.

I pulled away from Katherine and stared at them in disbelief as I muttered "Elena." Elena turned away from me and walked into another room, holding Damon's hand as they left. I went to follow after them when Katherine placed a hand on my chest and said "Stefan, don't." I walked away from her, feeling jealousy pull me in the direction Damon and Elena had went.

I called out urgently "Elena!" I opened the door and stepped into the room Damon and Elena went into when the Lockwood Mansion dissapeared and changed into the Mystic Grill.

I noticed that my clothing had changed from my formal suit to normal day clothes. I looked up to see Elena standing by the pool tables with a smirk on her face. She pointed the cue stick in my direction and muttered "It's your turn." I felt the tension leave my body as I smiled and started to walk towards her when Damon strolled past me and over to Elena who was actually talking to him.

I froze and felt an ache rise in my chest and in my heart as I watched my brother walk towards Elena. Damon teased "Be prepared to lose." I watched with jealousy as he kissed her lips and wrapped an arm around her waist, teaching her how to position the cue stick on the pool table.

Katherine asked from behind me "It hurts doesn't it?"

I turned to look at Katherine as she stood there in her formal dress and continued "Now you know how I feel." I looked back at Damon and Elena as they laughed and Damon kissed her on the cheek.

Katherine placed a hand under my chin and turned my face towards hers as she whispered "Don't fight it, Stefan. You loved me once, you can love me again."

As I went to look away from her the Mystic Grill dissapeared along with Damon and Elena.

I looked to the right and found myself in the Lockwood Mansion again as Katherine walked over and said "I love you, Stefan. We'll be together again-" She pulled my face down to meet her lips as she whispered against them "I promise." She pulled away and nestled her cheek into my neck as I placed a hand on her back and closed my eyes, feeling everything fade away.
