Chapter 4: Chloe and Ashton

When I walked into the office, a happy-looking man greeted me.

" Hello! How can I help you?"

"Um... hello." I said with a half-smile. "Um... I'm Claire Hunt. I'm supposed to be starting today and I was wondering what's my schedule."

" Oh! Of course Ms. Hunt! Please follow me!" He said while walking away, motioning me to follow.

He lead me to a small room with a desk, 2 chairs, a computer, other office supplies, and a plague that said"Mr. Radhunbacher" How was I supposed to pronounce that?

"I'm sure Mr. Radhunbacher will be here soon. So, I hope you have a nice first day! It's not often that we get new students. Especially a foreign one! You're from America right?"

"Yes, actually, I am." I said with another half-smile.

"Oh how wonderful! You'll do just fine here I promise. All the children here are as sweet as pie and you'll make friends easily, considering you're American."

What was that supposed to mean? Before I could ask, a heavy-set man came into the office. We shook hands and then he said,

" Welcome. I am Mr. Radhunbacher, the school's principal. If you have any questions, please ask Chloe, your guide for the day."

I barely noticed a small, skinny girl pretty much standing in a corner.

"Hi! I'm Chloe!" she said happily, smiling.

" Hey. I'm Claire." I said, returning her smile.

"Ok Chloe, please show Ms. Hunt around school campus and don't forget to explain to her all of our sc-"

"school policies. Yes Mr. Radhunbacher, I know." She said. Then she turned to me. "Ready?"

"Um... yeah, I guess."

"Don't be worried everybody here is nice, but I would try to stay away from the popular girls. They love to gossip and spread rumors." she said while we were walking out, winking at the popular girls part. "Ok, so we have all the same classes and today, if you want, I'll have lunch with you, but we need a place to meet. Ill show you where both of our lockers are and we can meet in the middle. Now lemme just see where your loc- Oh! It looks like your moving into the locker next to mine! I guess we won't have to meet halfway anymore!" she smiled, again. She always smiled." Do you need me to wait for you after 4th period so we can walk to our lockers together?"

"Um... actually that would be really helpful. This school IS pretty big."

"Ok! No problem! I'll meet you outside of the door since we ARE in the same class." she giggled.

"Ok. I'll see ya there." I giggled as well.

We walked to our lockers and she taught me everything I need to know about locking it and unlocking it. Then it was time to go to 1st period. She said that she didn't really need to show me every single one of my classes because I could just walk with her because we have all the same classes.

"So, Claire, are you ready for science?" She said with kind- of frown on her face.

" I guess so, but I'm not so sure. Are you ok?"

" Um yeah. Its just this boy in our class. I have a huge crush on him, but I'm too scared to talk to him. And he's friends with these other 3 boys. I think they're in a band. But anyways, they're sort of popular and, for me, the more popular they are, the harder they are to talk too."

"I totally agree. Mind me asking his name?"

"It's Calum. Calum Hood."

"Show me him when we get in there?"

"Sure, but do you swear you won't tell anyone?"

" I swear."

" Pinky swear?"

I rolled my eyes. "Pinky swear." I said holding out my pinky.

While we were hooking our pinkies, Chloe said, " Cross your heart and hope to die?"

"Chloe!! I won't tell anyone!"

" Mkay. And Claire?"

" Yeah?"

"Why do I feel like I've known you forever?"

" I dunno. Maybe we were destined to be Bffs?" I said giggling.

" Maybe."

"Maybe."

We stood there and just smiled at each other for a few minutes. Then she broke the silence. "Shall we get going then?"

"Yea." I said grabbing my notebook and pen.------------------------------------------------------- When we got in the classroom, there was a lady standing in front of the whole class, I'm guessing the teacher? When she saw us she said, "Hello! You must be our new student Claire!"

" Yeah. I guess I am." I said with a small smile.

"Thank you Chloe for showing her around. You can now go take your seat."

"Yes Ms. Lee."Chloe said leaving my side to go sit with her lab partner, I'm guessing.

" Ok! So I'm Ms. Lee and you can go sit with... hmmm... Ashton! Do you mind having her as your lab partner?"

" Um... nope Ms. Lee. She can be my lab partner." he said with a smile while he moved his stuff to his side of the table. He had dimples and it was the cutest smile I've ever seen in my life.

"Ok, Claire! Go ahead and sit with Ashton."

" Ok." I walked over to this so called Ashton and sat.

" Hey! I'm Ash." he said with another one of his smiles. I almost died of his cuteness.

"Claire." I said giving him a small smile then turning around to see that Ms. Lee was already starting the lesson.
