*Claire's POV*
I was on my way to the pharmacy to get a refill on my mom's pregnancy vitamins. I decided to bring Olivia with me because she's been locked at home and honestly, she needed some sun.
I had her on my hip and I walked down the driveway towards the shopping center, where the pharmacy was.
I was about to turn the corner when I saw Luke out of the corner of my eye. He was sitting on his front door step and he looked lonely. Sad.
Deciding to go talk to him was easy. I mean come on. He's one of my best friends.
I walked up the driveway.
"Hey." I said perkily, sitting down next to him.
"Hey." he said monotonously before letting out a huge sigh, not looking away from... wherever he was looking at.
I turned to him, resting Olivia between my legs.
"You ok?" I asked.
He waited a few moments before answering.
"Honestly. No. I'm not ok." he sighed, looking at me.
I stayed silent.
"You wanna talk about it?" I asked, squinting from the sun.
He shrugged.
This was probably the most awkward conversation we have ever had. What happened to the old Luke? The happy, nice, ass-slapping one?
"You know," I began. "...it's okay to not be okay."
He smiled at me. There he is. There's the old Luke.
"So what's wrong?" I felt more comfortable now, knowing that he would have to open up to me sooner or later.
"It's stupid." he shrugged.
"It can't be that stupid if you're this sad." I poked his side.
"Fine." he smirked.
"What."
"I'll tell you." he smiled at me.
"You have to. I wouldn't leave this spot if you didn't." I gave him a bored looking face.
"Ok. I honestly don't know what's wrong with me." he sighed.
"I'm listening."
Olivia walked away from my legs and to these small flowers growing off towards the side of Luke's lawn.
"Well I woke up this morning and I just feel... bad... about myself." he sat back, squinting from the sun.
"I feel like that sometimes." I nodded. "Especially a couple of years ago." I whispered this last part.
"Huh?" he asked, his eyes filled with curiosity.
"I was depressed." I shrugged. "Stuff happened. Short story is I'm living and I have scars." I shrugged.
He nodded like he knew what I was talking about.
"So what exactly is wrong with me, you think?"
"I don't know. Only yourself knows that." I shrugged. "You're either fine or you're not. Some people are both, but you can't be two sides forever." I said quietly.
" I don't know which one I am right now." Luke admitted.
"I had a side back then. I have one now."
"Which ones were they?"
"I'm on the fine side now." I smiled a small smile.
"I don't get it. Why do we have to feel like this." he shook his head.
"Think of yourself as the sky." I began, "when you were first born, you were the happiest thing in the world. You didn't have anything to worry about. Your happiness is a sun. Throughout the years, think of your sun setting. Like you're getting sadder and sadder and sadder. And then bam! You're in the dark. With no one and you feel lonely and scared. But there's always those stars. Those little pieces of yourself or those little things that you'll always be happy about. There's always happiness in something. You just have to find it. You have to find those stars. But remember, it can't be night forever, therefore the sun will rise again soon. You just have to wait. Wait for that happiness to raise out of yourself. But also remember, it can't be daytime forever which means you aren't always gonna be happy. But there's also those rainy days. Where you don't know what to think. You can't tell whether you're sad or not. It's gonna rain for a while, but there's also a rainbow after every thunderstorm."
"Wow." Luke nodded. "That's deep." he laughed.
"Shut up." I poked him.
"Thanks, though. I feel a little bit better."
"Well that's nice to hear." I smiled. "You wanna come with me to the pharmacy?" I asked him.
"Sure." he shrugged.
"Ok. Olivia!" I yelled.
She came running towards us. No. She ran straight towards Luke.
"Jee. Thanks for stealing my sister." I rolled my eyes playfully.
He kissed her quickly on the forehead before she put a flower in his hair.
They were the ones she were looking at.
"Dont bee sad Wuke." she said quietly.
"Awwww." Luke held her tightly. "Thanks for the flower." He laughed.
