Chapter 6: Talk

When we got in the classroom everyone was still up and talking and there in the corner was Ashton and this blonde guy talking and laughing.

I guess Chloe saw me looking because she said, " That's Luke. And you met Ashton right?"

"Yeah. Is Luke one of his friends?"

"Yup. But he's super nice. They're both friends with Calum and Michael. Michael's in our Language Arts class and he's also super nice. Actually all of them are super nice."

"You think everybody's super nice."

"I know, but I mean it with them."

"Why don't you talk to them?"

"I already told you!"

"Well, they seem to know you and I think Calum wants to talk more with you too."

"I don't know. We should go and introduce you to Mr. Smith."

"Yea."

"Dammit!"

"What?"

"We have to walk past them!"

"What's wrong with that? what are they gonna do? Throw a watermelon at us?"

"It's possi-"

"No. The answer is no." I laughed. "Come on. Look, I'll go first." I said walking towards the skinny man sitting on his computer and typing away.

She followed me stubbornly, making sure to look away when we passed the guys.

"See? That wasn't so bad, right?"

" Are you kidding me? It was like walking through hell!"

"Language." said Mr. Smith, not looking away from his computer.

"Right. Sorry." Chloe said sounding embarrassed. "Um... anyways... this is Claire. The new student?"

"Oh yes!" he said finally looking away from his computer. " Hmm let's see. How about you take the seat next to... Ashton!" he said brightly.

I saw Ashton turn when he heard his name. When he saw me, he gave me that award-winning smile and I almost died... again.

" Ok." I said, walking up to where Ashton just sat down.

"Hello, again!" he laughed.

"Hey." I smiled.

"So, I guess we're sitting next to each other in science AND math. What do you have next?"

"Erm..." I said while taking my schedule out of my pocket. " Language Arts."

"Aww. I don't have that next, but my friend Luke here does." he said pointing at Luke, who was talking to this really pretty girl and then turned when he heard his name and just gave us a simple nod then turning back to the girl. " Can I see your schedule?"

I gave him my schedule and he looked through it, giving an occasional 'hmmm' or 'awww'.

"Well, we have P.E., Home Ec, and Social Studies together! And the only class we don't have together is Language Arts!" he smiled.

"Cool! Don't laugh at me if I get a bad mile time in P.E. though. I'm really bad in that class." I giggled looking away.

"You can't be THAT bad! I'll run with you."

"I don't know. I guess you can run with me if you want, BUT you don't have to."

"I want to though."

"Ok then." I smiled.

The rest of class was boring. We were learning all the same things that I learned in Japan so it was like a review. Me and Ash didn't exactly talk a lot because Mr. Smith kept calling on him to answer the questions on the board.

Pretty soon the bell rang and Chloe and I walked to Language Arts together. We saw Calum in the hallway and he gave Chloe a small smile. I nudged her, making her shriek and the whole hallway looked at her. She was embarrassed, but really happy that Calum noticed her.

When we walked into the classroom, I was surprised to see that we were the first ones, other than Luke.

"Hey Chloe! Hey, Claire, right?" Luke said.

"Hey. Yea... how'd you know?"

"Please. Ash has been talking about you since the day he saw you moving in."

"Really..." this time Chloe nudged me causing me to shriek and then slapping her in the arm playfully.

"Yup." He said then turned to see another guy. " Michael! Hey, bro!"

Oh! So that was Michael!

"Hey Luke, Chloe, and... Claire right?"

"Yup..."

"Ashton's been talking about you to Michael also." Luke explained.

"Oh, well now that makes sense. Hey Michael! "I said giggling.

"Hey!" he laughed.

"Ok children take your seats and turn to page 361 in your textbooks!"

" Wait! Ms. Smart! This is Claire. The new student?" Chloe exclaimed.

"Oh yes! Chloe do you mind her sitting next to you?"

"Of course not! C'mon Claire!" she said yanking me towards the back with Luke and Michael. Oh! so that's how she knew them and how they were nice!

We both sat down and started the lesson.
