For Them

A seed is planted in the pit of my stomach
when she smiles at me,
when he says hi,
when I can barely meet their eyes
I try to conceal it by piling soil on top of soil
But someone is already watering my insides

He grazes my arm
She gives me a hug
The stem pierces the soil and it grows,
snaking past my intestines,
around my ribcage,
squeezing itself around each bone

She laughs and I'm breathless
He cries and I'm aware of every breath I take
Flowers grow in my lungs and I want to set fire to my insides
Anything to be rid of what I feel
For him
For her
For them

Another seed is planted
