Kenji
Wendy spent the next hour using her healing magic on the exceed while Shoken and I talked to him. I had decided to name him Hunter. We explained to him what will be happening and Wendy explained to him how long she thought he might be in the infirmary depending on how fast his progress improves. Finally, Emiko was able to come back in. "I came back baring snacks." She said. She placed a tray of snacks on the foot of the bed and sat next to me. She looked over at Wendy. "How's the healing coming?" She asked her. Wendy lowered her hands, exhaling in exhaustion. "He's definitely not ready to leave yet. But, he's out of danger at least. He should be able to move around a bit more comfortably." She explained as Shoken walked over to Hunter and held out her paws for him to take.
She helped him slowly stand and walked him through moving. "Start with just baby steps. One foot in front of the other. Take your time, don't rush it." She said. Once he was able to stand, he started walking. We could all tell his body was still really weak from his abuse. He was shaky as he moved. Shoken got him to the foot of the bed and helped him sit back down. He looked at the tray as if it were a feast. "You don't have to eat everything. Just eat as much as you can. I brought this in for everyone." Emiko told him. He looked up at her smiling face and nodded.
We all ate in silence, he didn't eat much but I think we all figured that much. He has to get used to being able to eat as much as he wanted. Right now, eating something that'd be considered a normal portion meal would make him sick. After all the food was gone, Wendy changed the bedding on the bed and helped him lay back down. "Get some rest, Hunter. There are a lot of people out there that'll keep you safe. If you need anything come find one of us." She told him.
He nodded silently, his eyes beginning to droop. We silently stepped out and Wendy turned to us after closing the door. "I'm looking to have his progress increase enough for him to leave the infirmary in the next week or two. I heard from Natsu-san that everyone will be taking a bunch of jobs next week in hopes of getting chosen to participate in the S-Class trials that will be happening soon. So, it's going to get busy and loud. Also, Kenji. I know you probably want to be here with him but, I would recommend taking a few missions as well. You'll need to make sure you have enough stuff for you and Hunter." The Sky Maiden told me. "Of course, I also wish to have at least a fighting chance at S-Class rank as well. I have a surprise waiting at my house for Emiko then after that, I'll probably go on a couple jobs." I explained. After that, Emiko, Shoken and I started heading out for my house, after picking up a couple jobs at the board.
We arrived quickly and as soon as I opened my door, we heard a soft meow and I felt a small body brush against my leg. We looked down and I saw Iris looking up at me. "You ruined the surprise, Iris. You were supposed to wait till I came into the room to get you." I said to the kitten, only to get a small meow back. Shoken walked up to it in mild curiosity. "It's not an exceed." She said. "You're correct. This is a cat. They don't have any abilities and their usually kept as pets." I explained. I picked Iris up and turned to Emiko.
When the kitten looked into Emiko's eyes and Emiko got a good look at her, I could tell she was in love with the little thing. "I saw her in a window at a pet store, asked the shop owner about her and after hearing her story, I immediately thought of you. Lucy, Levy and Gajeel helped me get everything here that will be needed for Iris and Hunter. Shoken, what do you think of Iris?" I asked. "It'll be great to have another member in a small but growing family." Shoken said, as she sprouted her wings so she could be more level with us.
I couldn't help but chuckle when Iris started playfully batting at Shoken's wings. I handed Iris to Emiko who snuggled the kitten for a moment. "I want to show the guild. Can we?" She asked me. I couldn't bring myself to say no. I grabbed some of her toys and some of her food and placed them in a bag. "If you want, we can grab a bed for Iris to leave at the guild hall." I told her. She nodded, smiling up at me.
I watched as Iris turned her body, put her front paws on Emiko's shoulders and sniffed lightly at her face before mewing at her and nuzzling into her neck. She petted the kitten before placing her down on the floor before stepping closer to me; Iris following her every step; and hugged me. "Thank you, Kenji." She said softly against my chest. I placed one hand on her hair and the other around her waist. I felt myself smiling down at her. I was thankful that we were mates. And I knew, that if we weren't, I'd still probably find myself falling for this little Water Maiden.
****I put a picture of Iris up top in the multimedia thing so you guys know what she looks liks.
