Chapter 38

Kenji

As we were on the train heading back home, Emiko fell asleep after feeling sick. I have to remember to ask Mira about it later. I had placed her on the bench seat across from me when she ended up dozing. We had been on the train for a while now, I was getting a bit sleepy myself but I refused to sleep because I didn't want to leave her sleeping body defenseless. My head kept nodding though.

I felt my head nod again before I straightened and let out a quiet yawn. I stood up and stretched my sore muscles. I always hated being on a train because my muscle would get sore after riding on said train for a while. They are just so uncomfortable to ride for several hours at a time. While I was still standing, I felt the train lurch violently under my feet, throwing my balance off a bit and I watched in horror as I saw Emiko's unsuspecting sleeping body, tumble to the hard train floor.

She let out an "oof" sound at the impact and slowly rose shakily to her feet as I stepped over to her to help her stand. "Sorry for not catching you. I wasn't expecting that while I was standing. Train about threw me as well." I apologized to her as she rubbed at a red spot on her forehead, right between her eye brows. "It's fine, Kenji. At least I don't feel like I'll be sick for now. What happened anyway? Why'd I fall?" She asked me, looking up at me with a confused expression.

I heard noise somewhere closer to the front of the train. "I don't know. The train just lurched while I was on my feet, 'bout threw me in the process. I'll go check and see what happened." I told her as I opened the door to our cabin. I saw a man about my height with strange yellow spiky hair and some weird looking outfit. I could sense the magic from him. "Hey, man. Would you mind watching my friend in here? I don't want any creepy assholes bothering her but I want to check out what's going on." I said, hesitantly placing my hand on his shoulder. I didn't know how he'd react to a stranger such as myself touching him.

He turned to face me and I saw a petite white haired girl that looked so much like Mirajane. "Sure, hopefully she doesn't mind my friend here being there. I could watch both of them at the same time. By the way, my name's Sting and this little thing is Yukino." The man said. I noticed he was maybe a few years younger than myself. Maybe a little closer to Natsu's age. "I'm Kenji and this here is Emiko." I explained. Yukino smiled sweetly at Emiko and stepped towards her. "Don't worry, Kenji. We'll keep her safe." Yukino said. I said my thanks and ran off towards the front of the train to find out what was happening.

As I got closer, I could hear voices. Some rough, some scared. "Hey, boys. Look at the cry baby, he's fixing to cry." I heard one man say. There were about six men surrounding something that was too small for me to see. I looked to the train and saw a deep but small dent and I recognized the emblem on the guys enough to know they were from some small dark guild mercenaries' from the Balam Alliance. I started pushing my way through the group until I came to the center to find what it was they were messing with.

When I finally made it to the center, I looked down to see a small tiny black figure curled up fetal position with its tiny black paws covering its pointy ears. I watched as it was shaking so hard and you could hear the gut-wrenching cries coming from the little thing. To say that I was angry was an understatement as I felt my eyes shift and my skin take on a dark hue. I let my magic surround me and the little exceed in a thick protective cloak.

I slowly turned around and faced the group. My head was lowered a little as my bangs covered my hatred filled eyes. "Why are you idiots messing with a cat? Don't dark guilds have some dignity or are you so desperate to get noticed that you would stoop as low as to harm a harmless creature?" I said deadly calm. "Haha, look's like we got ourselves a hero, boys." The leader said mockingly, right before my flaming fist meet beneath his jaw and sent him flying back.
