I listened to you breathe,
I could hear your bone cracking
I felt your spine snapping,
your fingers breaking
You simply stayed where you were,
too broken to move and too
broken to bother caring
Are you in pain? the voice whisper
Does it hurt much?
You woke up, you smiled
but I couldn't force myself to smile back
because all night
I had listened to your pain
and your bones breaking
and now I fear that's what's happening
to me, too
You see, love is so much more than
kisses and tender words
Love is feeling one another's pain and I
believe that I have felt your pain
You said to me once,
"being afraid of your loved one's
pain more than your own;
that is love"
and darling,
I believe I have found true love
because I've felt your pain
and I fear it
like I fear the broken stars that fall from
the sky at two in the morning
We, my loved one, are broken stars
