You came home late that night
I was in our bedroom under the
covers and listened to you
The small words that would
roll off your tongue, the
small sobs that would
make the floor beneath
you crumble
and you kicked your shoes off,
I could hear the thuds to the wall
When you came into the bedroom
you walked to my side of the bed
instead of your own and you kneeled
in front of my face and you gently
shook me,
"I need help"
You were painted black and
it was strange because
I was so used to seeing
you golden
Behind you I saw a
shadow, and he looked
like you and grinned
at me
My eyes shifted to yours again,
and you were pleading
so I stood up and I
felt hell under my feet,
the same that you
were in
and I realized
you had pulled me down
with you
Everywhere was fire
and pain and the
shadow behind you
held onto your arm
so hard it left reddening
marks
You grabbed my hand,
sending a burning
fire through my skin
and for the first time
it wasn't the fire
that I was used to,
the one that made me lose
both my breath and balance
It was an evil fire,
one that made promises
to break me like
it broke you
You released my arm
and we were alone in
the apartment, but
I could hear harsh,
whispers
like burning kisses
to my neck,
"welcome to Pompeii"
And I closed my eyes
and saw darkness, the
same one that I witnessed
in what used to be
blue skies in my
face as I stared
at myself and I realized
we had brought a little piece
of hell with us back up
Welcome to
Pompeii,
where the
fire chases you
and people
allow you to burn
like a sinner
Burn like a sinner
burn like a sinner
Save me from
the raging fire
of Pompeii
that only exists
in my heart
