Lunch

Lena's POV

I stick my glasses on top of my head as I walk up to the restaurant. I decided to wear one of my favorite sundresses with some strappy sandals that I love because they are comfortable. I open the door and walk in looking around for Stef but cant find her anywhere so I decide to grab a seat and wait. I look at my watch and realize I am 10 minuets early as I see the waiter walk up.

"Can I get you a drink."

"Yes please a water with lemon."

He nods his head and walks off. I look at the menu! I figured I better get a head start since I have never been here. I get a text from Gretchen again. It the fifth text today and I continue to ignore her. She doesn't understand that this time I'm through. She cross the line and there is no going back. All the women she was sleeping with behind my back, I was just to blind to see.

I look at my watch again and see that is 15 mins pass the time that we said we would meet.

"Im I that late?"

I look up to see her and oh my God she is so beautiful. I'm staring at her because I have never seen her in her uniform before.

"Oh no its no problem. You're fine.. I mean its ok that your late... no that's... its fine I just got here a little while ago."

She smirks as she takes her seats

" Well great, I'm glad I didn't have you waiting to long. And sorry about the uniform, I was called into work today and I thought I would be off in time to change."

"No, No. You look great."

She stares into my eyes now as I look down at the menu breaking our heavy eye contact. I don't know why she makes me so nervous. Maybe because I don't really know what this lunch is about. I mean yeah, I'm glad to have it but it would be a little less nerve-racking if I knew she liked women. And the next thing that comes out of my mouth may ruin any chances of finding out. But I have to know. I cant get caught up into her beautiful and make the same mistakes I made in college, being someone's secret.

"Have you every been here? I only ask because its seem like your very interesting in the menu....." She said while laughing. But I cut her off

"Stef I hate to be frank but ummm...what are we doing here?"

She is a little taken back from my question then I feel I hate to elaborate.

"I'm Sorry I just...."

"What's wrong Lena? Just say it."

I look at her then back at the menu and just as I am about to speak her radio that's still on her shoulder blast loudly, and scared me so much that I grab her hand almost in a protective manner. She pull back her hand but only to answer the call. She answers and says that she is on her way. I'm sure that she can see that disappointment and a little bit of anger on her face.

"I'm sorry Lena I have to go maybe we can continue this another time?"

I pause and wait and think, maybe not think enough.

"Go and handle your business, Ill see you around."

She looks at me with a stunned look on her face. She opens her mouth to says something but stops and just turns and starts to walks away. She is almost gone but turns around. She put one of her hands in a pocket and the other one on top of her gun and stand there for a min fidgeting as if she's nervous

"I'm sorry Lena, I'm.... I hope to see....I'm.....

And with that she turn and literally runs out of the door almost hitting a lady that was entering the restaurant.

Stef POV

I run as fast as I could out of the restaurant. Not because I was nervous but because I was confused. I mean does she not know what it means to be a police officer. I run to my car and drive to the my destination.

After arresting the perp that violated his parole I drove to the station for booking. I pull up to the station and walk the perp in and book him then head to the snack machine because I am starving being that I waited to eat with Lena. I pull the money out of my pocket and start to enter it until I hear my name called.

"Stef, Stef, Captain has been looking for you and asked you to meet him in the office."

You have got to be kidding me. He's only been captain for a day and he's already getting on my nerves. First he calls me in on my day off and now he calls me away from my lunch.. or snack.

I walk into his office and he's sitting on his desk.

"Captain." I say nonchalantly.

"Stef really. You can call me Mike. Well behind closed doors of course."

"Ok. CAPTAIN, what can I do for you?"

"Ok, Officer. Look I just wanted to talk to you and make sure that we were cool you know?"

"I'm fine! Really! But what can I do for you?"

"Sigh, look I don't want you to think I'm Justin being a pain in your ass, but I'm going to be giving you some more shifts. I know you hate nights but I need you to cover a couple this week!"

"Are you kidding me Mike?! I haven't worked nights in a year! What the heck?"

"Oh so now I'm Mike? Look Stef it's only for a couple of days. When captain retired a couple of guy changed precincts and I'm short! I now you can handle it that's why I put you down!"

Stef looks down at the floor in anger, only because if she looked at him she would jump across the chair and punch him in the face.

"Fine Captain! When does This rotation start and who is my partner?"

"It starts tomorrow and I've partner you with Grey."

"Detective Grey?"

"Yes. I need you to help him with a case he's working on. He'll brief you tomorrow, 8pm, don't be late!"

With that I turn and walk out of his office! What the heck is this all about?! He has something up his sleeve and I don't trust it at all. I pull my phone out of my pocket as it is vibrating. It's Lena! I decide not to answer because I need to grab something to eat before I pass out! I grab a bag of chips out of the vending machine and sit down to eat when I feel my phone vibrate again. I look at my phone and see that I have a voicemail.

"Hey Stef, ummmm....... well I guess your still on the job from earlier. I....I just wanted to apologize about earlier! I really don't have an excuse for my actions! ......maybe it was the uniform! Lol. But anyway, I'd like to see if we can meet up again maybe dinner or a movie or something?! Tomorrow?! Any way let me know! And again sorry."

Wow, I didn't expect that at all! I would love to go out with her again, but I start these stupid nights tomorrow! I pick up the phone and dial her number that I have already memorized!

"Hello."

"Hey Lena."

"Hey Stef, ummm I didn't think that you would call back so soon."

"Well I figured I'd call back while I had a chance! This job can be so unpredictable! Especially now since I have a new boss."

" I bet! To protect and serve though right? Lol!

"Yes ma'am" I say through laughing. "Anyway I was just calling to say I can't do dinner with you tomorrow, but was wondering if your free tonight?"

"Tonight sounds great."

" Ok, great! 7 sounds cool?"

" Yes 7 is fine."

"Great I'll pick you up then."
