Clary
"Okay, there's this secret cabin in the woods my family owns. We haven't gone there in years. The best part is, it's in my cousins last name, so Valentine won't be able to find it," Jace explains. "There's only a teeny tiny problem; it's a long ways from here."
"How long?" I question.
"Well, we live in Fallon Nevada and the cabin is in Shelby, Montana. I used a map, so Valentine couldn't trace our phone. It's approximately 1,200 miles, according to a US map, ruler, and a pencil," Jace explains. "If we drove straight there, using the route I found, I'd take 19 hours. However, since we're on the run, it will take longer. We'll have to travel at night, until we get far enough away." My eyes go big. How long? "Red, we have to travel carefully. Plus, we'll have to stop. If I recall correctly you can't drive, because of your dad, I'm assuming. None the less, that means I have to drive and I'll need breaks to sleep. We'll have to rent cheap motels under our aliases, to hide during the day, and then be back on the road at night. It won't be easy Red, but we can do it."
"Jace, how will I possibly pay for this?" I ask. "M...Valentine never let my mom or I have money."
"Red, you know my family has money. Plus, I've been saving up for a silver Jaguar F-Type Convertible. It costs $60,000 without any furnishings, but I've been saving adamantly. We can use that money," Jace explains.
"No! Jace, you can't use your car money or your family money for me. I'm not worth it," I try to knock some sense into him.
"Red, why can't you see your worth it to me," Jace responds.
"B....because I...I'm not," I quietly confess.
"Red, we've been best friends for 12 years." Yes Clary! You've been best friends, nothing else. He'll never see you as more. "You mean the world to me," Jace explains. You mean the world to me too......just in a different way.....
I can't think about this anymore. "We should go to the store and buy some dye. What colors should we get?" I ask.
"I think you'd pass as a blonde," Jace responds. "I....think I could pull off black."
"That sounds good. Uhh.....name change too, right?" I confirm.
"Yeah, we have to remember never to say our actual names when anyone's around anymore, okay," Jace explains. "What name should I use the first time?"
"I don't know," I reply.
"Come on Red, we can make a game out of it. I'll give you your new names and you give me mine," Jace coaxes. Now really isn't the time for games, but we've got to has so less stressful time too.
"Fine, you're....Thomas Johnson," I say. "It's simple, common, and won't draw attention."
"Okay, you can be...Kelly Johnson, my sister," Jace responds. Sister! What? Can I act like his sister? 'You've been doing it for 12 years,' a voice shouts. You're just a broken, ugly, weak, disgusting, and pathetic little girl that Jace feels like he has to protect.
"Red, what's wrong?" Jace asks concerned. I must be showing my sadness on my face. Normally, I can hide it, but I'm too tired right now.
"I'm just tired. Maybe we can spend another night here. We could check out. Change our hair and clothes, then come back and check in under our aliases. I really don't want to leave tonight," I reply. It's not a total lie. There's no need to tell him I like him. That thinking of me being his sister makes me nauseous.
"Okay, Red. I'm sorry, we can stay. But....we have to go to the store together. I'm not leaving your side," Jace says. I nod.
We get into Jace's car and he drives us to the store. On our way, Jace says, "Red, I've got to stop at my bank and withdrawal all my savings. It'll only take us a second." We stop at his bank. I slowly walk behind him as he swiftly takes care of business. Before I know it, we're walking back to his car. He lifts up the back left seat and unlocks a safe. He then proceeds to put almost all of the money in the safe. Closing the seat as if it were never open, he gets in the car and we're off again.
At the store
(Author's Note: I'm sorry if the different name thing is hard, so I'll try to make sure I make it clear. It's not too bad since Clary is a female and Jace is a male, but it can be confusing. For now, Jace is Thomas Johnson. Clary is Kelly Johnson.)
"Kelly, stop worrying about the money. I've got it covered," Jace softly argues.
"Thomas, I have..." I pull a wrinkled 5 out of my pocket. I walk down a different aisle. You're so pathetic. You can't even pay for hair dye! I want to cry but my head starts spinning, so I stand against a shelf. Seconds later, Jace comes rushing to me.
"Kelly," Jace says as I collapse in his arms.
"J....Thomas, I don't feel so good," I manage.
"We're almost done Kel. I found the dyes, now we've just got to check out," Jace quietly explains. I nod and stand up. We walk to the checkout and Jace pays cash for the dye. I make it to the car. Jace realizes I'm not doing so well and he hands me a plastic bag before I get sick. I end up vomiting in the bag and crying. "Red, it's okay. Shhhhh," Jace whispers as he rubs my back.
"I'm sorry," I cry. "I'm dragging you into this, making you pay for things, and now I'm vomiting in your car, while crying pathetically."
"Red, I jumped in full force, there was no 'dragging.' I offered to pay, so we can keep you safe. It's okay to be sick Red. Everyone has their moments. Let's get you to the hotel," Jace defends me.
