Jace

"No, I would never do that to Clary. I.....I love her," I confess. Luke remains silent. "Angel, please don't tell her. I....I.....she doesn't feel the same way. I......I don't want to complicate things for her."

"I won't tell her," Luke assures me. "When she wakes up, do you want to tell her about her mom or should I?"

"When she wakes up I think we should tell her together, but......" I hesitate. "there's a real chance she won't want to see me."

"Just tell her why you said it," Luke encourages me. "Explain that you didn't mean it and then prove to her for as long as it takes that you do care and you don't want her for sex."

"I will Luke, for as long as it takes," I reply. "D....do you think she'll ever forgive me?"

"With time, yes I do think she'll forgive you," Luke answers. "You just have to find a balance between trying enough and trying too much."

"Excuse me, my name is Dr. Lowe and I'm looking for Clarissa Fray's family," Dr. Lowe announces.

"That's us," Luke answers. The doctor eyes me suspiciously.

"Sir if you want, I can get someone else to watch the prisoner while you visit Clarissa," Dr. Lowe offers. Damn handcuffs! Is he going to leave me out here with some random cop who'll probably kill me?!

"Thank you, but that's not necessary Dr. Lowe," Luke replies.

The doctor turns without a word and leads us to Red's room. Before she opens the door, she abruptly stops. "Sir, I just wanted to tell you something before we go in. That's why I suggested you let someone take him for you. Clarissa, she's......her.....it seems like this isn't the first time she's been sexually assaulted," Dr. Lowe explains.

"Unfortunately, her father has sexually abused her for 7 years," Luke confirms.

"Poor thing," Dr. Lowe sighs. "You can go in now." With that, Dr. Lowe leaves us to see Red.

Luke pushes the door open, and I see her. She's laying in the bed. Luke and I remain a few feet away from Red, so we don't scare her. "Clary hon," Luke calls. Slowly, Red's eyes open.

"W....where am I?" Red asks confused.

"Clary, you're at the hospital. Valentine is in Jail. You're safe," Luke assures her.

"I....is Jace okay?" Red questions nervously. "I heard Valentine beating him before........."

"I'm fine Red," I reply. When she hears my voice, her face relaxes but then seconds later tears fall. "I should probably get checked out, but I'm sure I'm fine." All that's heard for the next few minutes is Red's tears. What do I say? Sorry? Should I tell her why I said those things? Should I leave?

"Jace.....you helped me?" Red questions.

"Partially," Jace replies.

"Jace, why did you help me? Is this some sick game? I heard everything you told Valentine. So, is it? Do you think I'll sleep with you now? Maybe I'll give you your reward?" Red spits out question
after question.

"I'm going to go let two discuss this," Luke says. "As long as you're okay with that. I'll be right outside if you need me." Red nods and Luke leaves.

"Red, it's not what you think," I begin. "Can I sit on a chair?"

"Jace, y....you don't have to ask me," Red replies.

"Oh, but I do. I always ask," I explain.

"We're you going to ask when you planned on having sex with me?" Red nervously questions.

"I deserve that," I confess. "May I sit, so I can explain?"

"Yes," Red replies. I haven't sat since the cop cars. I know this is going to be painful..... Slowly, I lower myself on the chair. I wince when I make contact. No, I can't keep going. I stand up.

"Sorry, I just remembered I....I've been trying to lose weight, so I'm going to stand," I lie. Lose weight?! Are you serious?

"Jace, what's wrong with you? What did Valentine do?" Red asks suddently with worry.

"It's nothing really, I'm fine," I deflect.

"Jace, please go get checked out. I'll be here when you get back and you can tell me everything," Red coaxes.

"Yeah, okay, if you're sure," I confirm.

"Jace, please just go get checked out," Red pleas.

"Of course Red," I reply. "I'll be back soon."

Luke walks in. "I know this isn't the best time, but Clary I need you to do something for me," Luke begins. "One word from you and Jace is free. Right now, it's Jace's word against Valentine's word. Did Jace do anything illegal? Did he kidnap you? Hurt you?"

"Not in any illegal way," Red replies. I just hurt her in all the other ways. She's scared of me. After everything we've been through, a 5-minute conversation leaves us back at square one....... I'll wait, I'll rebuild our house of trust. I love her and even if she never loves me, I'll always be here.

Luke uncuffs me. "Jace, you're free to go," Luke says.

"Thank you," I reply.

"Luke, go take Jace to get checked out please? He wouldn't even sit on the chair. He says it's nothing, but I saw him wince in pain when he tried to sit down," Red asks Luke.

"Of course Hon," Luke assures her.

"I'll be back soon to finish this," I say to Red as Luke and I leave. "Get some rest." Red nods.
