Jasper's POV
I feel the rush of the wind as I run, flexing and stretching my muscles in a smooth rhythm. It calmed me, and I often eagerly stopped near a pond and pointed my muzzle into the air, to check for the scent of prey. When the scent of rabbit hit my scent glands, I would crouch, and slowly crawl towards it, careful to keep quiet. Then, at the last moment, I would pounce, and grasp it firmly in my jaws.
Crack!
I would clamp my jaws shut, and kill it.
I enjoyed running through the woods after classes, and relished the feeling of my wild instinct urging me to hunt.
But not today.
I scamper through the bushes and ferns, and transfer back into my human form. I approach a dead and dry field, and it was surprisingly cold, even though it was early October and the sunlight was streaming down on it.
I walked slowly, and saw a rock covered by shrubbery. It was huge. The sound of my footsteps echoed as I ran towards it, and pushed aside the plants. The rock was actually a cave.
My blood turned cold. The Barren Ice Fields, where that devil wolf was entrapped. I backed away slowly, and I swear I saw a pair of yellow eyes looking at me, narrowed, as if in a mocking way.
I heard soft growling, and I ran away towards the school, but in my wolf form. I strongly ran through the vast forest for hours, until I reached the school. I had to tell Vera, Jax, and Kate about this.
Kate
My life flashed before my eyes. I saw my town, Golden Mountains, and my mother and father, so happy I had a chance at a brighter future. And Tiffy, my fluffy cat. Our house, the excitement I felt at being accepted, when I thought Chelsie was my friend, Vera and Jasper, and... Jax. I looked over at him, moving in slow motion towards us. We could've had a happy ending together, like in those fairy tales, but alas, life is no fairy tale. A tear slid down my cheek, but then I felt my heartbeat quicken.
No! I will not let Chelsie be the end if me... I have so much more to live for. I found strength within me, and used it to swipe my claws at her glaring green eyes. She stumbled back in shock, and at once, I bit at her chest and raked her exposed soft belly. She screeched out in agony, and leapt up to her paws. I stopped, and with her good eye, she glared at me.
"This is not over, Kate Rayson," she growled softly, her lips drawn back. I stifled a sigh of relief, and collapsed down on the floor, and changed back to my human form. Jax rushed over to me, and cupped my face in his hands.
"You're bleeding, and hurt," he whimpered. I smiled slowly, and said, "There is one thing that can make me feel better," I said, and whispered it in his ear. He smiled, and brought my face close to his, and quickly kissed me. He let go, and cradled me in his arms.
The feel of him alone made me feel better, and I felt healed after his kiss. I loved him.
The next instant, I saw Jasper rush in, it looked like he was about to say something , but then gasped in shock when he saw me. "I'll call for the school nurse," he hollered, and ran off.
But Jax already healed my wounds, I thought, and drifted off into sleep.
