I woke up in the nurse's office, in the same white bed.
I saw that the other four beds were occupied by Vera, Jasper, Jax, and Louis. They were all awake, and were all staring off into space.
I tried sitting up, but my back hurt and I cried out in pain. Vera turned over and said, "Are you okay?"
I nodded, and asked, "What happened?"
"The school heard the commotion and everyone came to the gates and saw what happened. Jax and Jasper explained what happened since they were not as badly hurt as us, and they rushed us in here. They cleaned up the scene, and allowed the civilians to stay here until they could be taken home.
The school's going to have an assembly in a few hours where we'll explain what kind of school Alkrok actually is to our parents and what happened yesterday night. They also want to know why we were gone for two months..." Vera nervously chuckles.I nod. I see that her arm is in a cast, and Jasper also has one on his leg. Jax has bandages all over him, and Louis had a patch over his black eye and wraps around his stomach.
"Wait, where's Sage?" I asked.
"Umm... he was able to heal his wounds by himself and is outside walking around."
I smiled. So he really is that powerful. This whole war thing was over and I was alive. I'd have to explain what happened over these two months and I'd be a hero. Except I didn't really care. All I really wanted to do at the moment was focus on my schooling and make my poor family's life better. Maybe I do that by becoming a hero. Probably not.
I sighed, and watched as the hours trickled by.
~ ~ ~
I was helped to stand up and I was put into a wheelchair. Most of my wounds were healed, but my whole body was sore and exhausted, so movement was very painful.
I got to go on stage with all of my friends, and I started the story off with explaining what instincts were and how Alkrok teaches its students to use them. I continued with how Ms. Fox told me to read a book. I didn't mention the whole key thing because I didn't want her to get in trouble. Then I spoke about how me and Chelsie fought, and how Jax explained some things about the legend. I mentioned how Vera found out more information, and how Chelsie left to Jalstie and we followed her. I confirmed Chelsie's hate and aggression by adding how she had severely wounded me in the gym, and how that had motivated me to follow her to Jalstie. Once there, Louis explained his family's plans and trained us to fight the wolf. I added in how horribly they treated Louis just because he didn't want part in the plan. After we came to the school gates, I explained how we fought and Sage declared he was on our side and how I killed the Kakos Lykos once and for all by destroying his heart. After I had finished, the room was quiet, and then erupted into clapping.
We all bowed and Mr. Birdsong praised our hard work and how sorry he was to not have helped us. He gave us tiny pins with a picture of a trophy. Last minute awards I guessed.
We were all happy, and I got to meet my parents and I cried.
"Sweetie, it's okay. Me and your father are proud of you... so much!" They also started tearing up, and after a few hugs and small talk, Mr. Birdsong said the school staff would have transportation ready to take people home.
My parents climbed into a horse-drawn carriage marked for Golden Mountains, and I promised to meet them on the holidays. The others also waved goodbye to their parents, and to all the other people leaving back to Jalstie.
A couple problems remained. Who would rule Jalstie?
All of my friends sat down in the quiet cafeteria, and discussed this.
"I don't want to rule," Louis said, shaking his head. "I hate that place."
We all laughed, and Louis smiled a little.
"I'm sure they'll have an election or something and figure it out," Jax suggested, and we all nodded. First problem solved.
Next one: what would happen to Louis and Sage now?
"I'd like to stay at Alkrok," Louis said, and we nodded.
"Even though you're a year ahead of us? A sophomore?" Vera asked, and he nodded.
"I'd like that."
"What about you, Sage?" I asked, and he tilted his head.
"I don't know much about the real world, so I don't really know," he responded.
"Hey man, what about the same as Louis? Would you like to stay here?" Jasper asked, and Sage grinned.
"Totally!"
Last problem: How would we catch up with our studies?
Jax burst out laughing at this one.
"Catch up? I think we're ahead! We learned to control our instincts magic and learned a whole lot about history and spells! Damn, Kate, we're way ahead of the other students," he laughed.
I clicked my tongue. No so fast.
"What about math and ELA?" I asked, and he became quiet. Now it was our turn to laugh, and we laughed so hard Sage sneezed milk.
"Guess we'll have to work harder," Vera suggested.
After a funny breakfast, we got Sage and Louis enrolled. They were both roommates, and the whole school adored them. We became suddenly popular, and Jax's desire to stick to the shadows were ruined. Freshman year was fun, and I enjoyed Alkrok. Maybe almost killing yourself does have pros to it. I didn't see Chelsie that year, and I was happy. Jax and I were able to go on dates and act like a real couple, and from that moment on, I could genuinely say I was in love.
Life was good. The whole kingdom knew our names, and the king awarded us with medals of honor. But guess what was really great? A few weeks later, the king retired and his handsome and wise son took over as king, making the kingdom happier and a greater place to live in.
Through it all, I had brought my cat Tiffy from my home and she was living with me in my dorm, in which Vera had moved over.
Saying that, I believe it is time to feed her.
Guys, that's the end of the story. 😭😭😭 I might write a prologue, or a short spinoff of what happened after that or questions/requests relating to the story. This story was short, but my first completed story. If you read all the way to here, I thank you for your support and willingness to read this retarded book I wrote. 😂 I might even go through and edit some grammar mistakes and typos, so if you find some, let me know. I also want to thank Broken-Reflections and Tempests_puppet for giving me inspiration and countless feedback on my book. They gave me so many ideas and their books are also good, check em' out. 😊😜
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much and with love,
