I get dizzy, and stumble back. Vera catches me, and I thank her. We walk into the auditorium while Jax follows us.

"Tell me, who are you?" he pesters, annoying me.

"Go away! I don't have to answer your question if I don't want to," I exclaim, making Jax stand still.

"Well, you have to. You know, I'm student police, I get to question whoever I think is suspicious... which means you will have to answer my question."

I clench my fists and turn around to face him.

"Fine! I'm Kate Rayson. Freshman year, and I got invited here. That's all you need, right?" I ask, and he nods.

"Mmm...," he says.

My group of friends sit in the front, and I swear, Jax winked at me right before I sat down. I get the chills, and Chelsie puts her hand on my shoulder.

"Are you okay?" she asks, and I nod.

I look around, and I see the auditorium walls are painted black, giving the stage more attention. The carpet on the floor is red, with pictures of yet more principals. Rows and rows of soft, black seats line the whole auditorium, and there are even balconies on either side of the walls. The balcony is painted a gold color, with four or so red seats. The stage is beautifully lit, with old-fashioned, red-regal curtains.

The lights dim, and the curtains open. Melody and Derek step out, along with some middle-aged man. The man appears to be wearing a gray pantsuit, and has graying, but also balding hair. He wears gold-rimmed glasses that makes his eyes hard to see.

"Hello Alkrok High School students! I am Principal Jay Birdsong. Today, we will welcome all of our freshman, in the welcoming ceremony," he says, giving the microphone to Melody.

"I will call out each dorm name, followed by the girls in the dorms names," she informs, clearing her throat.

"First, the bird dorm. Gabby Felder, Natalia Mink, Hannah Roger, Julius Cluckerton ..."

She calls out names, and I don't really listen. I yawn and stretch until she nears the end.

"Last but not least, Vera Nightingale," she calls, and Vera gets up, and proudly walks up the steps to the stage.

"This concludes our girl's bird dorm. Next, the reptile dorm."

While Melody calls out names, I excuse myself to the restroom. I get up, and Chelsie follows me.

"Chelsie, you can keep going, I'll catch up. I have to tie my shoes," I tell her, and kneel down to tie them.

She nods, and heads towards the bathroom. I tie my shoes slowly, thinking of the ceremony. I hope I won't miss my name getting called out, because if I do, no one will know I exist.

I get up, and I see someone walking towards me. I immediately know who it is. Jax.

He waves, and I keep walking, ignoring him.

"I'm sorry, but can I introduce myself again? I feel like we got off on the wrong foot," he asks, and I wave him off.

"What part of 'go away' don't you understand?" I ask, and he smiles.

"I did go away, but now I came back."

I laugh at his weird thinking, and keep walking.

"So, I'm Jax Lightning. Freshman, in the feline dorm."

I turn around, and he almost stumbles.

"No way! I'm in the feline dorm. So does this mean I'll see you almost every single day?" I ask, almost regretting asking the question, because I already know the answer.

"Yup!" he chirps, and I groan. I look at the clock on the wall and see it's 9:35. 10 minutes already gone.

"See you later."

I decide to ditch Chelsie and run to the auditorium. I get there just in time, to see Melody call out, "The feline dorm."

"Angela Tiger, Bailey Hemsworth, Chelsie Swift... Chelsie?" Melody pauses.

Chelsie runs in, and she stares at me. Her brow is furrowed, her eyes full of fire.

I will burn you alive... she mouths, scaring me. She quickly runs up the steps and joins the others.

"Kate Rayson," she calls, and I get up. I join Chelsie, who stares at me intently.

"Last but not least, Sulia Zap," she ends, and a pale girl with red curls and green eyes comes up, and everyone applauds.

"That will be our freshmen girls," Principal Birdsong says, clapping.

I quickly step down, and Chelsie bumps into me.

"You... you... you slimy snake! You left me alone!" She angrily hisses.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to miss my part of the ceremony, and I bumped into Jax... and, and...," I keep mumbling on, trying to form words to explain why I ditched her.

I really didn't know either, to tell you the truth.

"I'm starting to think you like Jax," Chelsie smirks, making my cheeks flush a deep red.

"Ooh...," she smirks again, her grin the most disgusting one I've ever seen in my life.

"No! I don't! I really, really don't!" I try to contradict her, but she waves her hand.

"You just confirmed my suspicion," she said, right before turning her back to me and walking away.

I clench my fist and huff. I never realized it, probably because I'm blind to friendship, but Chelsie is as big as a jerk as all of the high-classes.

"Stupid, good for nothing Chelsie...," I mutter, and I immediately know how I'll take revenge on her: reveal her true identity.

I smile, and join Vera and Jasper.

"Hey Kate, wanna go to the cafe around the corner and chill?" Jasper asks, and I know that the cafe will be a perfect spot to have a chat with them, you know, about Chelsie.

"Sure, Jasper, but what about your name getting called?" I ask.

"Nah, it's no big deal, I want to be unnoticed, what with all that drama and stuff," he says, sighing.

"Okay then, let's go," Vera nods, and we follow her.

"Chelsie, come with us?" Jasper asks, and Chelsie smiles and nods.

She nods at Jasper and Vera, but then looks at me and sticks her tongue out.

I walk, trying to keep away from Chelsie. Every now and then, she mouths something threatening, and I will myself not to stare into her eyes, which have now turned from warm and fiery to a freezing cold stare. I shiver, and her eyes turn into ice.

We reach the cafe and I sit down, right next to Chelsie. I had to, because Vera and Jasper were on the other side. Chelsie stares, and kicks my shin with her foot swiftly, without letting Vera or Jasper see.

I wince, and she smiles.

"I'd like to order some ice cream," Jasper says, as the waitress comes to our table.

"I'd like that too," Vera and Chelsie say at the same time. They smile and laugh it off.

"I'd like a coffee," I say in a squeaky voice. I've lost my confidence, with Chelsie next to me.

"Alright," the waitress says, and walks away.

I take a deep breath, and prepare to talk about Chelsie to Vera and Jasper. I'm not losing my confidence for this, not when I need it the most, I think, and start to talk.
