*Flashback*
It happened when after one of our little training sessions, and I was on my way to my room, which was mostly empty now. I was walking down like normal, and hear sounds coming from my room. I get on my tippy-toes and walk slowly over to my door, and put my ear against the red door.
"Mother... tomorrow... going... fine."
I hear only some words, and decide to crack the door open a little. I was scared to death I would startle Chelsie, and she would stare me down with her icy eyes and kill me for interrupting her.
The door opens just a bit, and thankfully with little sound.
"You want me to come back to the palace tomorrow! Mother, I would like to, but you know Kate, the rude one? I would like to keep a closer eye on her. The day of war is drawing nearer. Louis? Really? You'll let me see him?"
I stood quietly, sucking up all of the information.
"No! What's the real reason that you're wanting me to go?" There's a long silence, before she speaks again.
"You want me to train at the palace? Are you sure it's not better if I stay here ad train? No, you're right, I'll be with my enemies here, and I'll be able to do more at the palace. Alright mother, I'll arrive later tomorrow."
With that, she clicked off her phone, ad threw it in a small bag. Then, without looking up, she said, "Come out. I know you're there."
*End of flashback*
I completely freeze, not knowing what to do. What can I do, really?
She clicks her tongue. Click, click, click. She slowly moves across the room, and opens the door.
"So, you turned to spying? You know what? That fight we had, it didn't hurt... at all. If you thought for one second that I actually got seriously hurt, then you're wrong," she cackles. Then her eyes narrow, into little blue slits.
"Now that you know that I'm going home..." she pauses and trails off. She puts her pale, disgustingly-spoiled hands on my shoulder.
"I'm doing nothing."
That makes me freeze, for real. I know some precious information, and she just lets me go? She laughs, and smiles like she's enjoying toying with me.
"You can never get to Jalstie, because you're poor, and you don't know where it is. But if you did manage to get there, nothing would happen... my family's stronger than you."
She smiles again, picks up her bag, and waves goodbye.
"See you at the war, where you'll die!"
I slump down to the floor, confused. Am I really going to die?
I don't know how long passes, maybe half an hour or so, but Vera is there, patting my back.
"I foresaw this, so I came to see if it was true," she whispers. "We're going to Jalstie, aren't we?"
I clench my hands into fists, and shake my head, clearing away my confused thoughts.
"Yes we are, and we're going to see Louis and prevent the Jalstones from going to the war," I answer.
Vera smiles, softly. "I know, we should get Jasper and Jax on board."
With that, she gets up, and helps me stand up.
"When are we leaving?" she asks.
"Right. Now."
Vera sighs, and then nods. With a brisk wave, she turns into a brown spotted owl and flies away. After all, she was going into the boy's dorm, and it would be less suspicious with a owl entering rather than a girl.
