Chapter 16. Katie

Keith's pov

Rage in my thoughts I storm down the hallway. Just as I go to turn the corner I bump into Pidge. Of course she's on her computer.
She looks up at me. I realize that she is immediately uncomfortable. "Sorry" I just want to get out of this situation as soon as possible. I apologize and try to leave. "Keith wait" huh? 3- no we haven't spoke to each other in almost a week. I turn around surprised.

"Yeah?" She looks down and fiddles with her glasses. "Um.. are you doing okay? With Lance gone and all-" "Yeah actually about that." I snapped at her as soon as she mentioned Lance. Didn't mean to do that..
"Why haven't we tried to find him yet? What's up with that." She's a tech nerd, she must know what's happening with the 'Get Lance Back' plan. Or at least what's happening technology wise.

"O-oh...um you know I'm not supposed to talk to you." But she! "But you talked to me first!-" deep breaths Keith deep breaths. Don't want to scare away the 14 year old. She looks at me with a little terror in her eyes. I put my thumb and pointer finger on the bridge of my nose and sigh. "Sorry I didn't mean to freak out like that." She takes a second to compose herself. "No no it's fine"

I look at her, my eyes pleading to tell me what's happening. She sighs and looks around, making sure that no one can hear us.
"Allura Shiro and Coran are all forming a rescue plan as we speak. Coran is really distressed about what happened to Lance."
I breath and take in what she said.

"Do you know what the plan is so far? Maybe I can hel-" "Sorry Keith but no. I'm not allowed to discuss the plan with you." Breath Keith- "why not?! I'm Lance' friend too!" And the whole reason he's in this mess...
"Because what if you go psycho again? Who knows what you might do with that information." ..The attacks on Lance come to mind. I stare at her with disbelief. Katie, one of my only friends at the garrison, doesn't trust me anymore. I start to get a headache and put the palm of my hand on my forehead.

"Look Keith I'm sor-" "I doubt you are even trying to find him." I mumble. "What was that? I couldn't hear you-"
"I doubt you're even trying to find him!" All common sense out the window. "Yes I am!" Her face showed how shocked she was that I would even think so.

"No.. you said it yourself. You only care about finding Matt and your dad." She looks at me as I betray her with my words. I shouldn't have said that. Dammit Keith you know how sensitive she is about that! I feel immediate regret as soon as the words leave my lips. "Katie I-" "Whatever." She shoves past me, covering her eyes with her arm. Shit. Dammit..
I slide down against the wall and sob.
Why do I have to push everyone away?
