“4 months later”

“Who is that?” I murmur to the rest of my lunch table as I point across the cafeteria to the blonde boy sitting in the corner by himself. His hair is done up in a quiff style, and he is wearing dark Ray Bans to cover his eyes. Looking closer I see that black skinny jeans cover his long legs, and he is wearing a ‘Blink-182’ t-shirt.

“Oh, that is Luke Hemmings,” Calum whispers from across the table, leaning closer like he is about to tell a big secret but he says nothing else.

“Well is he new here or something?” I ask, encouraging Calum to tell me more of what he knows. I mean it could be possible that I just haven’t noticed this Luke kid for the past three years of high school, but I pretty much know everyone at school and I have never seen him in my life. Not saying I’m just that popular, but we go to a pretty small school and the people are the same as the kids you know growing up.

“Yeah, I heard that he transferred from the school across town. Apparently he used to be in a gang or something and he got into huge trouble,” Calum continues whispering, practically laying on top of the table by now. I give him a smirk before chuckling.

“And you know this how?” Emma grins as she sits beside Calum. She looks over to me and rolls her eyes, we both know how much Calum likes his gossip.

“Because it’s all over school! Bad boy has to spend his senior year at our school,” Calum exclaims, getting louder by the minute and drawing attention to our small table.

“Calum I get it okay, shut up,” I whisper urgently, pushing him in the shoulder so he sits back down in his seat. He gives me a sigh, clearly wanting to go on with all he has heard, but he lets it go.

“So, where is dear Ashton today? You guys have been joined at the hip since you started dating last month,” I grin, looking over to Emma as I try to change the subject from the mysterious boy across the room.

“I’m not sure, he said he wanted to go talk to his math teacher or something. I didn’t think he would miss all of lunch,” Emma replies, shrugging her shoulders but looking a little sad that Calum was here beside her instead of Ashton. I’m about to say something else when we all hear the bell ring, signaling the end of our lunch period.

“Bye Calum,” Emma and I both say at the same time giving him a grin as he gets up and runs off, most likely to find Michael. I throw my tray away risking one last glance at the boy sitting alone. I see that he is still sitting at the table, but instead of staring at the wall as he was before his sunglasses are now directed towards me with his eyebrows raised as if he has heard our whole conversation. I quickly look away, my cheeks flushing from embarrassment at being caught as I catch up to Emma who is walking out the door.

“You totally think Luke is cute,” Emma beams, nudging me in the side as we walk to Biology together. Before I can reply back though I feel an arm wrap around my neck as someone gets in the middle of Emma and I.

“And who does little Ellie think is cute?” Ashton asks, pulling me into him for a side arm hug before wrapping his arms around Emma and spinning her around in the middle of the hallway. My name isn’t really Ellie by the way, I was born Arielle Howell but apparently one of my first words was Ellie and it has stuck ever since. I wait for Ashton and Emma to finish their little romantic encounter so we can get to class.

“So who do you think is cute?” Ashton asks again after he is done kissing Emma and we all start walking down the hall towards class.

“Nobody,” I murmur, twirling my long blonde hair in my fingers. I’ve always been really proud of my hair; although I am the typical blonde haired, blue eyed, tan girl I absolutely love my hair. I look out of the corner of my eye to see Ashton turn to Emma for the answer. I sigh knowing that she won’t be able to keep anything from him.
