“So, feel like skipping class today?” Luke asks as he leans up against my locker.
“Are you serious? Last time we skipped school I got grounded,” I gasp, slamming my locker shut as I grab the books I need. I start to walk to class with Luke following beside me, he is so close I feel the side of his body against my own.
As we shuffle through the crowded halls I can feel students eyes on us. I sigh as I realize I must get used to this; everyone in this school thinks Luke was in some gang before he came here. That he is a bad boy that can’t be fixed. I am from one of the town’s wealthiest families, a member of the popular group here at school. Everyone must think what is a girl like me doing with a guy like Luke.
“What’s wrong? Don’t like all the attention? I would think you’d be used to it,” Luke whispers, leaning down a little so only I can hear him. I don’t know how he can basically read my mind.
“Luke seriously, when are you going to drop the whole popular girl thing?” I ask with an exasperated sigh. Yes I know how I am looked at, but both Luke and I know that the Ellie everyone sees is not really me and it’s just kind of annoying when he keeps saying it.
“Okay, okay I’m sorry. But, with your whole movie thing this is kind of a movie as well,” he chuckles, lifting his arm to wrap it around my shoulders and pulling me into his side. I give him a bewildered expression, waiting for him to explain. “Well I mean popular good girl falls for sexy bad boy,” he winks, giving me a smirk.
“Wow way to be conceited,” I laugh, “and who says I’m falling for you anyways?” I ask, even though I am desperately falling head over heels for this mysterious boy beside me.
“Oh sweetheart, I can see it all in your eyes but it’s okay. I don’t mind,” he shrugs as if he is talking about the weather instead of my feeling towards him.
“Oh well I’m so glad you don’t mind,” I mutter, “I’ll see you at lunch,” I say louder as I walk into class and Luke continues to walk down the hallway towards his class. He gives me a small smile and a wave as I go in and take a seat.
“So you guys are okay?” Emma asks me as I sit down in the desk next to hers.
“Why wouldn’t we be?” I ask, confused.
“Well Friday after Ashton said all that stuff Luke seemed pretty mad, I just didn’t know. I asked Ash what he meant by all of that, but he wouldn’t tell me,” she squeaks. I know she just adds the last part in hopes that I will tell her what Ashton meant, but I’m not saying anything.
“Oh yeah, we’re doing good now. Just kind of been hanging out,” I reply, not looking her in the eye and pretending to shuffle through my papers until the teacher starts lecturing.
She doesn’t say anything else for the rest of the morning and now we are walking towards the cafeteria in silence, well it was silent.
“My two favorite girls, how are we doing today?” Ashton’s voice rings through the hall as he comes from behind us and wraps an arm around each of our shoulders. I give him a small glance through my hair and see that he is smiling largely, it looks like old Ash is back again.
“Hey Ash,” I mutter quietly, shrugging his arm off of my shoulders. He doesn’t seem upset by the motion as he wraps both arms around Emma and kisses her quickly as we continue to lunch. We all get in line and I grab my tray of fries and a bottle of Coke before going out towards our table. Looking I see Calum sitting there by himself looking towards the table in the corner with confusion etched on his face; I follow his gaze and see Luke and Michael sitting back at Luke’s old table.
