Ashton’s POV

“Dude, what the actual fuck?! You can’t just go around trying to kiss other people’s girlfriend, especially when your girlfriend is that girl’s best friend!” Calum exclaims for at least the fortieth time in the last ten minutes. After Luke punched me he, Michael, and Ellie bolted out of there quick and after cleaning up the blood from my nose I went outside to find they had taken my car. Little shits.

Not knowing what was going on, as usual, Emma decided to catch a ride home with some girl she knew claiming she was upset that I wasn’t giving her enough attention. Not that I really cared at the moment, I have bigger things to worry about. Now I am sitting on Calum’s floor , the next morning, listening to him bitch about what I did like it is going to affect him in some way.

“Look, I understand that what I did was wrong okay. Since when is she Luke’s boyfriend anyways?” I question. This is news to me, I mean yeah I know they are together but I didn’t think they were actually dating.

“I dunno, for a few weeks I guess. He asked her one day and she said yeah, I mean they’re pretty much inseparable either way,” Calum replies with a shrug of his shoulders. I hold up my hand to stop him from talking, I don’t want to hear this. I really just need some time alone to think.

“Look, I’m just going to head home. I’m pretty tired and my nose hurts like a bitch,” I mutter, getting up from the floor so I can leave.

“You want me to drive you home?” Calum asks, instantly getting up from his bed.

“No, no I will just walk,” I say, “don’t worry I’m not going to do anything stupid,” I add, seeing Calum’s panicked expression. What does he think I am going to do? Go find Luke and beat him to a pulp…I mean that’s what I’d like to do but I can’t.

I give Calum a final wave before walking out onto the sidewalk, following the familiar path to my house. Who does Luke think he is telling Ellie all these lies about me, anyways? He knows nothing about my life or my friends. If his little sister hadn’t of come along and messed everything up last summer Ellie and I would be together, with Luke nowhere in the picture.

I’m sure now Ellie is scared too death of me, I’m sure Luke has twisted the summer incident to make it seem like he and his sister were the helpless victims while my friends killed her and I helped, but that isn’t what happened and Luke knows it.

“Ugh,” I groan, running my hand over my face before yelping in agony forgetting about my nose until the shooting pain runs through my body. I stop walking and decide what I have to do. I can’t lose Ellie yet.

“Hello,” the voice says on the other side of the phone and I can’t help but smile, even though she sounds frightened her voice is still so beautiful. I quickly shake these thoughts out of my head so I can answer before she hangs up.

“Ellie, we need to talk,” I murmur with a sigh, trying to sound as friendly as possible. She stays silent for so long that I have to take the phone from my ear and make sure that she is still on the line. “Arielle, please,” I whisper, knowing that the use of her full name will bring her out of her stupor.

“Ash,” she starts before quickly backtracking, “Ashton, I don’t want to talk to you,” she isn’t using my nickname anymore…

“Please, just give me a few minutes to explain myself,” I beg, hoping that all the years of our friendship will allow me this much.

“Fine, I’m at home,” she sighs after a few seconds of silence. I nod my head, the small smile reappearing on my face before realizing that she can’t see me nodding but I hang up the phone anyways, turning around so I can take the shortcut to her house.
