“Ellie, Ellie are you even listening to me?” I hear Emma say from across the lunch table. Looking up I realize that she, Michael, Calum, and Ashton are all staring at Luke and I who have been playing thumb war for the last twenty minutes.
“Yeah, yeah I’m listening. What did you say?” I ask in reply, giving her a bewildered look. Honestly I haven’t even heard her speaking to me.
“Ugh, seriously,” she groans with a roll of her eyes, annoyed at the fact that I’ve been ignoring her. I mean I haven't been doing it on purpose, I was just really into the game Luke and I had been playing.
“Emma was asking if you’re going to the party this weekend?” Ashton speaks up with a smirk, looking at Luke and I. I guess this is an invitation for both of us. I really have no idea what party he is talking about though, I guess this is how out of the loop I am since I’ve started hanging out with Luke.
“Ummm,” I answer, not really knowing what to say. I glance over at Luke who’s expression is frozen as his hand tightly grips my knee. I know he doesn’t want to go, and I am just trying to find a polite way of saying no to my friends without making them angry. I think they’re all pretty upset I haven’t been around as much lately.
“Yeah, we’ll go,” Luke answers just as I open my mouth to say I have to go out with my parents. I turn to give him a curious look, but he just kind of smirks at me and loosens his hold on my leg.
“Yeah, I guess we will be there,” I murmur, playing with my food.
“Good, I will just come over to your house Friday so we can get ready and then we can all ride together,” Emma squeals, obviously not catching the unenthusiastic tone I am using.
“Awesome, can’t wait,” I mutter, just as the bell rings. I love Emma to death, but sometimes she can be so oblivious. I hop up from the table before she can reply back; as I am walking Luke stops me by grabbing my hand, pulling me back to walk beside him.
“Why did you say yes about going to this party?” I ask quietly, craning my neck to look up at him.
“I know you miss your friends, and it’s okay if we go. I’m not going to go crazy or anything,” he chuckles. “I feel like I need to become more social,” he adds with a wink.
As happy as I am that Luke is trying to become more social and closer to my friends it kind of sucks that I don’t have him all to myself anymore. For the past couple of weeks I’ve felt like he is just mine and no one else can have him.
“It’ll be fun,” he murmurs, pulling me in for a hug and kissing my forehead as he notices the skeptical look I probably have plastered on my face. I nod my head and go into my class, giving him a wave as he walks off towards his own. Maybe he is right, it will be fun. I haven’t been to a party in ages so getting out will do me good.
The rest of the week passes by fairly quickly; I go from being excited about this party to highly nervous on how Luke is going to act. He hasn’t been to a party since what happened to his sister, and I just don’t know if he will be able to handle it.
“Can you please just focus on me for two seconds?” an annoyed asks from the desk beside me.
“What is it? I’m trying to take notes,” I whisper through gritted teeth. Emma has been trying to talk to me this whole period about the party and I really have other things on my mind.
“You are not trying to take notes, your mind has been somewhere else all day. Do you still want me to come over after school or just forget about it?” she asks, the sadness evident in her voice.
I sigh before answering her, I actually feel bad for not hanging out with Emma as much as usual. “Of course I want you to come over,” I say, giving her a small smile hoping that it makes up for the silence I have been giving her for the past two weeks.
“Awesome,” she answers, her voice instantly becoming more ecstatic as the bell rings signaling the end of school. We walk slowly to my car, Emma looking around for Ashton but after a few minutes of not being able to find him we just give up due to the fact she will literally see him in like three hours.
As we make our way to my car I see Luke standing by his motorcycle, waiting for me.
“Long time no see,” he teases as I get closer to him so he can pull me into one of his amazing hugs.
“I know, how do you survive without seeing me for an hour and a half,” I playfully answer, giving him a poke in the chest. He chuckles before releasing me and looking over my shoulder to see Emma waiting to get in the passenger seat.
“Hey Emma,” he waves with a smile, and she returns the greeting. “So I’m just going over to Michael’s and then we will come pick you guys up?” he asks, making sure of the plans for tonight.
“Um yeah I think so. I think Ash and Calum are going to pick you guys up so we can all ride together,” I answer, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before getting in my car so as not to keep Emma waiting any longer.
“So, you guys seem to be getting pretty close,” Emma states after we get to my house. After two days of intense yelling my parents ended up having to go on another convention trip so of course I am home alone. But, they told me the discussion was not over. I’m sure by the time they get back all memory of me staying out all night with Luke will be gone from their minds.
“I guess so,” I murmur, not knowing how far I want to get into this with Emma. I know she will run back and tell Ashton everything, and right now I really just don’t trust Ash as much as I used to.
“So you aren’t going to give me any details at all? Come on, I’m your best friend,” Emma squeals, throwing a pillow at me. I turn from where I am sitting in my desk chair straightening my hair and throw the pillow back.
“Well he took me to the zoo, other than that we’ve kind of just been hanging out,” I say with a large smile, trying to show how excited I am. If I act overly excited I won’t have to tell her that I had sex with Luke yet which I am not ready to do.
“Aw, that’s so cute! Tell me every single detail about your little zoo date!” Mission accomplished.
I spend the next thirty minutes explaining my ‘zoo date’ in full detail, answering every question with enthusiasm. As I talk about the date I can’t help the smile that forms on my face, thinking back to how fun our first official date was.
“That’s so freaking cute, I wish Ashton would take me to the zoo or something,” Emma groans after I have nothing else to say. I turn from my closet to see that she is already dressed in one of my black dresses, her perfect curls cascading around her face.
“How are you and Ash doing?” I ask, trying to keep my voice normal as I turn back towards my closet.
“We’re okay I guess, he’s just always off doing things or having to leave school and I don’t know what’s going on. He won’t tell me anything, but he’s still super sweet to me so I guess it’s okay,” she answers as I pull out some orange shorts and a sheer tan top.
“What do you mean he is always doing stuff?” I ask, looking at her skeptically as I start to change my clothes.
“I mean he just texts people and won’t tell me who it is, and then when he misses school he won’t tell me why. It’s no big deal, I just kind of wish he would trust me sometimes,” she shrugs, her mouth turning into a slight frown.
I open my mouth to ask more questions but a car horn from downstairs interrupts me.
“They’re here! Time to party!” Emma squeals, her face turning back into a grin just as quickly as it left. I grab my shoes and follow her downstairs, not about to let this subject go.
Author's Note: Hey everyone, so I am so, so sorry for the late update and I hope you all forgive me.
