Sometime later Michael and Calum decide to leave and I end up going upstairs to take a shower and get some sleep for school tomorrow. I hate to say that I’ve been watching the window to see Luke pass back by, which totally makes me sound like a stalker, but I have and I haven’t seen him yet. Which is kind of strange because his walks usually aren’t that long.
I’m just getting out of the shower when I hear a knock at the door. I quickly put on my shorts and a t-shirt before walking quietly down the stairs, trying to peek through the small window in the door. This is just what I need, a murderer to come into my house and kill me right after I get out the shower.
Wait, why would a murderer knock on the door instead of just barging in? I take a deep breath before walking over to the door, standing on my tiptoes I look through the small hole and see none other than the top of a red snapback.
“Luke, what are you doing here?” I ask, opening the door to see him standing there staring at his feet. He moves his feet around, and wrings his hands together as if he is embarrassed that he’s here at my door.
“Um sorry, I shouldn’t just intrude like this. I’ll let you get back to your friends,” he mutters, raising his hand and putting it behind his neck. He finally looks at me and I see how shy he truly is, he has a sheepish look in his eyes. The smirk and confidence from earlier now gone.
“They aren’t here anymore. I’m alone if you want to come in, you won’t be intruding,” I quickly answer, opening the door wider and inviting Luke in. As soon as I let my statement out, I draw in a harsh breath. I have just told Luke I am alone, he probably thinks I want him to come in so I can have mad, wild sex with him when I really donn’t mean it like that at all. To my relief though he just gives me a small smile and comes in through the door.
“Sorry, I don’t really know why I came here I just don’t feel like going home right now and you’re the only person I talk to,” Luke says timidly, looking down at his feet.
“It’s okay, you can stay here as long as you like,” I reply, trying to keep my voice collected. “Um, do you want something to eat or drink?” I ask, feeling the awkwardness in the room or hallway I should say.
“Yeah sure,” Luke perks up at the mention of food and gives me a small smile. I grin in response and beckon him to follow me into the kitchen. Luckily, I still have like three slices of pepperoni pizza left since Michael usually eats it by himself. I pull them out of the fridge and warm them up before handing Luke a can of Coke. I wait until the pizza is warm and hand the plate to him as well, seeing that he is already sitting on a barstool in front of the counter.
I stand with my elbows on the island as I watch him start eating the food like he hasn’t eaten in days. After he finishes his first slice he looks up at me with a raised eyebrow, “are you just going to sit there and watch me eat?” he chuckles, the confidence and wittiness coming back.
“Oh no, sorry,” I murmur quickly grabbing the plates that Michael, Calum, and I used earlier and starting to wash them in the sink for something to do.
“I’m just kidding, you don’t have to go all maid on me,” Luke laughs, picking up the second slice of pizza and beginning to eat it just as quickly as the first.
“When’s the last time you actually ate food?” I ask, quite interested in how fast he is eating the food I have placed in front of him.
“Eh, yesterday maybe. I dunno,” Luke mumbles, shrugging his shoulders like it is no big deal. I feel my eyes widen, why has he not eaten since yesterday?
“What the heck? Why have you not eaten? Don’t your parents cook dinner for you and your siblings or anything?” I ask. Oh my gosh, why did I say that. I groan internally hoping that Luke doesn’t catch the last question, but from the way his body stiffens I know he has.
