CHAPTER 6 - Wisly University

CHAPTER 6

 

Wisly University takes deep pride as being the leading University in Engineering and Applied Science in the whole country. They boast their engineering courses who consistently being the top performing school in the board exams. They boast also the unparalleled researches of the professors and thesis of graduating students who constantly publish papers in a prestige science citation index (SCI) international journals, they take deep pride of the leading Scientist and Engineers nowadays are graduates from Wisly University.

Rommel A. Perez is currently the Dean of College of Engineering and Applied Science at the Wisly Uiversity. He took B.S. Electrical Engineering and graduated with flying colors (magna cum laude) at the same University. He was a topnotcher in the Electrical Engineering board exams in their batch.

Rommel: …of course, I am the best of all. (proudly thinks)

Upon invitation of the higher management at Wisly University, he teaches in Electrical Engineering Department after the board exams. He then took M.S. Electrical Engineering at the same University and after 2 years, he graduated with distinct honors (cum laude and best thesis). After graduation in M.S. EE, he then gradually promoted as Chairperson in Electrical Engineering Department. He teaches both in undergraduate and graduate courses.

Every time he saw a handsome or semi muscular student at the first day of his class, he blushes with a matching small rhythm of “ocho-ocho” dance on his body. He murmurs secretly.

Rommel: Target acquired… fafa…

Most Electrical Engineering students do avoid his subjects because of being strict at class, providing hard exams, lot of paper works, and only passing 12% of the total class population at the end of every semester. Giving him a universal dubbed by the Electrical Engineering students at the University as “the singko queen” and “the EE queen wears prada”.

Before a final examination comes, most students in the EE class could feel already that they would flank the subject; hence, they are finding their way to escape and pass the subject of the EE queen. The day before a final examination, they normally offer their handsome classmate as a “sacrifice” for a date with the Professor, an “escape goat” strategy hoping to marginally pass his subject. They universally acclaimed it as an “offertory sacrifice to the majestic queen”.

Handsome Classmate: What!!? …Why me!?

EE Students: Because you’re the one, a sacrifice of one, for the benefit of all of us.

Handsome Classmate: …but

EE Students: do you want to pass the subject? Are we your friends?

Their handsome classmate stared blank on the wall. Then he stared to his classmates as if he doesn’t have any more choice.

Every time Rommel fails a lot of students, parents do come by in his office, wanted an explanation and double checking the test papers of the students, while others file a complaint against the Chairperson. However, the complaint goes nothing because the higher management is on his side.

Upon hearing a word ‘complaint’ anywhere, Rommel murmurs to himself.

Rommel: …you file a complaint? I am the Wisly University.

Every time parents or students come to his office for complaint, he always tell these statements, as if this we’re programmed already in his mind. 

Rommel: …you know already that we have high standards here in Wisly University, we only pass quality students.

Followed by the statements

Rommel: You can transfer to other schools of you wanted to. I’ll tell the registrar to prepare your documents for transfer.

Students and parents can’t comment anymore after hearing these words because they know Wisly University is the best school amongst all. Parents want their children to be a graduate in Wisly University because most students graduated from here landed in a good job local and abroad with high paying salary.

Rommel was very loyal to Wisly University he had no other part time or free lance jobs except being a Professor and Chairperson at Wisly University. The higher management saw these things at him, they reviewed his good records and after several years, he then promoted as the Dean of Engineering and Applied Science with a unanimous vote from higher management. Being a Dean of Engineering and Applied Science was Rommel’s ultimate dream.

Upon seating on a luxurious chair on his new office, the secretary greets him, feeling refresh in a new ambiance.

Secretary: My new boss!

However, Rommel responded oppositely, he murmurs in his mind.

Rommel: …aba maldita ‘tong bruhang ‘to ha.

His right eye brow climbs up with the secretary and said in a semi-loud voice.

Rommel: …Ehem! Get this paper and photo copy it, make it quick then proceed to work!

The walls of his office echoed the voice; the secretary followed immediately trembling with fear. She could feel his strictness at his first day at the office. After work, she starts browsing jobstreet.com.

The EE students specially students from other departments such as IE, CE, ME, ECE, Science and Math became even more fearer. They all knew this famous Professor and former Chairperson of EE Department. They knew this ‘queen’ takes no considerations. Murmurs spread among students “the singko queen had elevated in a higher heights”

Rommel reached these murmurs on his new office, he then thinks.

Rommel: …of course …watch me. (wearing a grin smile)
