CHAPTER 9

Vince began to speak.

Dr. Balacina: It is my pleasure to be here and had been invited to give a talk. My talk is all about Nuclear Physics: Research Trends and Perspectives here on 1ST International Conference on Nuclear Physics, Technology, and Applications where the host is Wisly University.

Dr. Balacina: I myself was a graduate of Wisly University, dated way back…

Dr. Balacina pauses for a while.

Dr. Balacina: …uhm, nevermind.

The audience laughs.

Rommel inhales and climbs his right eye brow up, with a flirty look to Vince.

Rommel: …I’m now the present dean. (thinking proudly)

Dr. Balacina: ok, so let’s start.

Vince then flashes firstly the Schrodinger’s Equation in his power point.

The mayor’s jaw dropped again, he shook his head.

Vince then followed by Quantum Mechanics with a little explanation of the Weisenberg’s Principle.

After a while, he then showed the self dual partial differential equation, followed up by Jacobi equation, and so on, the talk was on nuclear mathematical physics research trends.

The mayor thinks.

Mayor: Scientists and engineers we’re never understood.

At the middle of the talk, the mayor seems to understand nothing except the colors of the power point.

The mayor shook his head again and begins to open his 10.1 inches tablet while in sleeping mode. He enters the screen password, taps the volume and minimizes it.

The mayor is thinking about the volume.

Mayor: Just to make sure, he he he... minimize... minimize... mute... he he....

Vince on the other hand was very busy and excited explaining an equation in front of the stage.

The mayor seems to have a plan already in his head, even before the talk is about to start.

The mayor speaks on his mind.

Mayor: The speaker will never know what I’m going to do.

He then taps an icon that looks like a small bird.

The mayor then thinks to himself.

Mayor: flappy bird…. android’s gift to humanity.

He then plays the game in his android phone in a silent mode. A tartar appears on his teeth whenever he secretly smiles. More tartar appears every time he gets a high score than previous.

Mayor: …life at its best.

The mayor still constantly looked to Dr. Balacina pretending to be a listener to his talk, he nod sometimes with the speaker as if he’s listening. Rommel noticed these things.

Rommel in his thought to the mayor.

Rommel: bruha...

Some professors on the other hand, do googling about Dr. Balacina and his research publications.

One professor murmurs to his colleague who is listening to the talk while showing him in his 8.1 inch tablet, verifying in internet about Dr. Balacina.

Professor: Look, this guy is really a monster.

While showing him his 400 plus titles of research articles in wikipedia.

His colleague was shocked, as if he’s currently holding a 220V AC live wire.

Colleague: what the...

Some students however are doing research about nuclear fundamentals and began posting something on their status on facebook.

... is feeling determined =)

Some audience however can’t really understand the presentation and almost get sleepy during the talk.

Audience 1: This presentation is really an effective sleep-inducer than my sleeping pills.

While engineers and scientists are so serious taking notes especially on flashed equations during the talk, that they almost forget to get blink in their eye.

Engineers and Scientist: Equations, equations, yes please, more equations!!

They seemed like almost singing in a chorus section of any songs.

Dr. Balacina gave almost 3.5 hours of talk proper, aiding with his power point slides on a big screen.

Then finally his presentation was finished.

Vince: ...that ends my presentation, thank you very much for listening.

The audience clapped their hands. Scientist and engineers claps even harder.

The moderator who was reading a paper almost got sleep. Thanks to the participant beside him, he taps his hand to the moderator’s shoulder. The moderator with a partial red eye stands up immediately as if there’s an on-going fire drill.

Dr. Balacina smiles and hands over the wireless microphone to him.
